Novel "Holes": Letter by Linda

Dear Future Generations,

If you found this, we are probably dead. Don´t cry about that, just fulfil our last wish. We want

nothing else.

We didn´t finish what we wanted to do. So now you´ll have to. It´s not like it is just something

your ancestors always wanted to be done, it is something that will bring glory to the whole

family, more glory than there ever was.

She kissed a black man, a poor onion-seller. Yes, we´d never had married if she wouldn´t

have kissed him as Trout originally wanted to marry her, she was my old teacher.

But she, a white friendly and perfect woman kissed a black one, a worthless person. That

was a true scandal.

My dear Trout showed Kate what happens if you don´t follow the god-given order, he killed

the black man. He was my hero.

We married and didn´t hear from Kate a long time, until the first people got killed by her. She

got popular as she kissed every man she killed after robbing him.

At the beginning I didn´t understand him, but as he told me that he found the place where

she retired, at our old hometown, we went there. It was spooky, nobody was there, the town

was left, only Kate was there. We found her, found out she buried her loot.

We wanted her loot, we needed her treasure, so we forced her to go out on the out-dried

lake, to show us the place where we need to dig, but the lake was massive and Kate was

completely crazy. That’s what killed her. She walked towards a devil with the red eyes, he

killed her slow and painful. But not even with this pain she wanted to tell us the place, and

when she was dead, we buried her in one of the holes we dug.
