There are laws relating to health information and how it is shared and stored

(health record act 2001)

All health professionals are bound by these laws and cannot discussed without

prior consent (as with 3

Storage as this information is also required to abide by these laws.

Amongst other issues

Who do people usually complain about?

Generally, the issue should be resolved with the health service, but if not

possible the HCC will become involved.

Dependent on the complaints there are several outcomes for the complaints.

2. How can it help you?

o It helps users find nearby healthcare services, get advice on

symptoms, access health resources, and receive reminders for

medications or appointments.

3. Can I get health advice online?

o Yes, the app offers online health advice through symptom

checkers and connects users to health professionals when

needed.

4. What are the positives and negatives of the app?

o Positives: Easy access to health information, convenient service

finder, and immediate symptom assessment.

o Negatives: May not replace professional medical advice, and the

accuracy of self-assessments can vary.

5. I need health advice — do you have a helpline?

o Yes, Health Direct typically offers a helpline (such as 1800 022

222) for immediate health advice and assistance.

OTHER COMPLAINTS RESOLUTION BODIES

The ombudsman is an independent impartial officer of the Victorian parliament,

responsible for investigating complaints about administrative actions of

Victorian government agencies, such as the department of health and human

service.

The ombudsman aims to achieve the mission by:

Independently investigating reviews and resolving complaints concerning

administrative actions of state government department local council and

statutory authorities reporting the result to complainants and the agencies

involved

 Reporting to parliament

 Improving accountability

 Promoting fair and reasonable public administration
