Introduction

The local chamber of commerce has many members who run small businesses the members are interested in using social media to promote their businesses but know very little about it. Merton Chamber of commerce has gone to my school knowing that we have investigated social media. They have seen how well I know about social media platform through the presentation I did at school which made them interested in my skills to promote, advertise and build a social media presence for a business. Merton chambers of commerce has allocated me a position to manage a small business due to the skills I have mentioned earlier. A business called Flavour Boss has now asked me to plan and implement a social media presence so that they can generate popularity to their business.

Flavour Boss is a fast-food restaurant that do Caribbean food. Flavour Boss are trying to build the popularity by gaining followers on social media. Flavour Boss have 50 employees and they are trying to expand that, become a bigger business, and have multiple chains. Flavour boss sells food like jerk chicken, lamb, curry goat, fried chicken and would come with fries or rice. Flavour Boss has a following on Instagram of 11 thousand, which is not bad for a small business, but of course, they would want it to grow a lot bigger than it is now. Flavour Boss is expecting me to grow the following based on the knowledge I have. Flavour Boss is just a local fast-food restaurant that need more of a social media presence. The demographics of Flavour Boss is mainly younger people, and it is around 50-50 for male and female. People who are Caribbean are the ones who go to Flavour Boss as they are used to the food that they serve however people who have tried Caribbean food and like also go as well but the main cultural demographic is Caribbean.

Use of social media

It is a successful strategy for expanding your audience by promoting engaging content so that the audience will stay invested in the business and enjoy their content. The business can raise awareness of the initiatives the business is undertaking, for example their product or service. A business may also be able to change their brand image by being real in their posts, which will help all its consumers form the same perception that the business is trying to show. Social media should be used by businesses, as it may boost interaction. This starts quick conversations that help the company obtain feedback, build connections with clients, and increase client loyalty. Additionally, it may aid the company in boosting sales through clever promotional techniques like partnerships. Social media's ability to link everyone and everything also allows the business to keep an eye on its rivals and produce fresh, original concepts that they have not yet implemented.

Businesses can use social media to benefit them by getting customer feedback, which can give them tips on ways to improve; this can lead to customer loyalty as you are interacting with your customers. Another advantage that a business can get from

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended certificate in Information Technology Unit 3: Using social media in business Learning aim BC: Develop a plan to use social media in a business to meet Requirements and implement the use of social media in a business. social media is that you can use it to research other businesses and see how they are advertising their business and implement some of their strategies into their own. This can lead to quicker results as you are copying a strategy that is already working. Businesses can use their social media to watch their competitors and see how well they are doing and to try to price their service or product in a reasonable price. Because of doing this you can also get various ideas on how to attract your target by watching what type of methods your competitors. One of the best advantages of a business using social media is that they can build customer loyalty between the business and the customer as they build a relationship online.

There are disadvantages whiles using social media for a business it is time consuming which means the business will need to focus a lot of their time on it, which will not allow the business to focus on other stuff. Social media can be used ineffectively. For instance, utilising social media to promote your business with interacting with any customers or not being able to handle any issues that may have been addressed can lead reputation being destroyed. This means not everyone is able to run a social media account for a business because any small thing can happen and that will affect the business. A poor managed account can reflect on the business and cause issue like people not wanting to try their product/service. Social media is based on popular you are but the moment you say something or do something that may be seen as controversial this could destroy your business straight away so you must be careful in what you do.

Social media demographic

Instagram

Instagram is demographic to target the users Instagram to purchase their product. The age bracket that covers up the majority of active users on Instagram are 18-34 which cover over 50% of users. With a large user base from various demographics, Instagram is a well-liked social media network in the United Kingdom. Around 35 million individuals in the UK used Instagram as of 2021, according to statistics from Statista. Instagram users in the UK come from a wide range of demographics, with a roughly equal distribution of males and women across all age groups. The majority of users, according to studies, are young people between the ages of 18 and 24, and 25 and 34. People from all socioeconomic levels use Instagram, although research indicates that users with greater incomes and levels of education tend to use the network more frequently. In addition, studies indicate that in the UK, urban rather than rural residents use Instagram more frequently. Flavour boss Targets/Aim

The aim of Flavour Boss is that they want me to increase their 3-month profit from 12 thousand to 18 thousand a month. I will be doing that by promoting them on social media. The way I will promote their fast-food restaurant is by posting their food and ask people that have tried it to make a video about how much they like the food. This will bring customers because people would want to experience what the people in the video are saying. Flavour Boss is in Thornton heath, which is not a well-known place if you do not live in south London or near to it. Therefore, my aim will try to build its popularity further than it is now and try to get Flavour boss to get enough of an audience so they can expand their business in the far future. Another target that Flavour Boss to change the demographic to a broader scale to maximise sales. An important target for Flavour Boss is to build a positive brand reputation, which will be great as people will talk about it being good and that will help my other target (brand awareness).

Smart objectives:  On flavour Boss Instagram page, I will post picture/videos of the food and how good it looks and of people eating and enjoying it. They have a decent following on Instagram of 0 followers and by the time, I am finished with Flavour Boss’s page they should be around 1000 followers on Instagram. This is achievable by me building good brand reputation by interacting with Flavour Boss already high following. This will allow me to meet these targets within they time I told them it will take as I told them I will be able to achieve what they want within the 3 month period. I also want to achieve over 1000 likes in a post which is achievable if I am able to achieve following of 1000.  Flavour Boss lacks a following on YouTube so I will set up an account for them and aim for 600 subscribers as that is a realistic goal I can achieve. This will all happen in the next few months. I will make sure Flavour Boss has a big presence on YouTube by uploading videos on things that are trending and making entertaining videos or make people talk about how good the food is and once you try it you wouldn’t regret it. This will be done in 1-2 months and depending on how good everything is going I may boast the targets for Flavour Boss so they can achieve even higher I would like to achieve over 500 likes which is realistic in the time I have to achieve this objective.

How can Flavour Boss use social media? Flavour Boss can use social media to benefit them in so many ways as it is a small business social media will not be able to build a bad image as it could to big businesses. They make their page interactive with their followers, which will make them talk about it to others, as a result, it will spread their business name and they will gain more of an audience. Flavour boss has a good Caribbean menu they can post their food to advertise what they have to offer, and they can post their positive reviews that they have gotten to build a hype about their food, which will make people wonder

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended certificate in Information Technology Unit 3: Using social media in business Learning aim BC: Develop a plan to use social media in a business to meet Requirements and implement the use of social media in a business. about how good it is. They can make videos that do not relate to their business like what I was talking about in learning aim A, which can build their audience quick as it makes content more interesting and engaging. This allows Flavour Boss to build a wider range of their audience and it can build a good brand image as it brings entertainment. Flavour Boss will use social media platforms to advertise their food and to inform people of discounts, which will bring an interest to their business. Flavour Boss using social media will just give them customers at the end due to them receiving a social media presence.

What social media platforms will I be using?

I will be using YouTube and Instagram as the social media platforms that will give Flavour Boss a social media presence. I will being using Instagram as it is one of the most popular platforms which will be good to grow a social media presence as it has around 1 billion active users. The features of Instagram is very useful as I can easily analyse the engagement by the amount of followers, like and comments. I will be using YouTube because it is a video-based platform and videos are more engaging so people are more likely to send videos to their friends, which will boast Flavour Boss’ social media presence. It is also a good social media to build a good brand image as people could see what type of thing Flavour Boss get up to and they could do fun cook off challenges. These are the reasons why I chose Instagram and YouTube for Flavour Boss.

How they can use YouTube? YouTube is a social media platform that allow users to post videos for people to Watch their content. Users can watch videos on a large range of things as it has a Big audience of people who use it. Flavour Boss can use YouTube to bring entertainment to their audience and by making videos that do not relate directly to their business. This will bring a wider variety of people that may like the content they produce to try their food. They can make videos of 2 people competing to make a meal that Flavour Boss offer and have a judge to rate their cooking to see who won. They can use YouTube to inform people of events that may happen. Flavour Boss can make ads that people can watch about their business and pay you tubers to put it throughout a video so that it can attract their audience. With the entertainment content, they can analyse the demographic and make a prediction in what type of videos they will like to watch which will draw in the audience. This can easily be achieved as we already know the demographics is younger and from a black ethnic background but that doesn’t mean other people that don’t match the average demographic do not buy what Flavour Boss has to offer.

How they can use Instagram Instagram is a social networking platform that enables users to post pictures and brief videos to their pages for other users to view. By doing so, users can browse other people's posts and follow them. Flavour Boss can use Instagram to promote and advertise their food and what prices they are selling their meal for. Instagram has a feature that allows Flavour Boss to post stories, which will allow them to inform people that live near the business. Instagram is perfect for a business-like Flavour Boss as their demographic is based on younger people and Instagram has a high

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended certificate in Information Technology Unit 3: Using social media in business Learning aim BC: Develop a plan to use social media in a business to meet Requirements and implement the use of social media in a business. Below you need screenshot your updated project plan with all of the changes that my peers told me to add

This is an updated version of the project plan as I was told to make it more specific so I will be able to manage what I do each week until the final week when I handover the social media account to the CEO of Flavour Boss. This has all the tasks that I will be doing compared to the first draft which was missing a lot of sub-tasks.

Developing a social media policy

There are many advantages to creating a social media policy for a fast food restaurant like Flavour Boss. First off, a social media policy can help safeguard a brand's image by laying out precise guidelines for what kinds of content are acceptable to share on the brand's official social media accounts and what kinds of content should be avoided. Second, a social media strategy can guarantee compliance with legal and governmental requirements linked to social media use, such as privacy laws, advertising regulations, and copyright laws. Thirdly, by ensuring that all workers represent a professional picture of the business online, a social media strategy can increase consistency. Fourthly, by outlining the kinds of information that can be shared on social media, a social media policy can assist in lowering the risk of data breaches or disclosures of private data. Finally, a social media policy can involve clients by delineating rules for how staff members can communicate with clients on social media sites, which can enhance client satisfaction and foster client loyalty.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended certificate in Information Technology Unit 3: Using social media in business Learning aim BC: Develop a plan to use social media in a business to meet Requirements and implement the use of social media in a business. Overall, creating a social media policy can assist Flavour Boss in maintaining a good online image, safeguarding private data, and offering precise instructions for how staff members should interact with customers on social media platforms.

SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY

Legal and ethical issues

Before launching the campaign for my business, there are a number of legal and ethical considerations that need to be made. The copyright law, which forbids using another person's work to pass it off as your own. Relating to Flavour Boss, they will not be allowed to use other Jamaican fast food restaurants videos or pictures as their own and if they do, it will lead to further consequences. This implies that when I post, I am not utilising someone else's work, which may harm my business. A negative reputation for my company will result in fewer clients, which might have an impact on my business reputation as well. Additionally, I must agree to the usage of cookies since they will enable me to collect data from my clients who view my social media posts. This implies that I must obey the law, and I can do this by simply getting permission before doing anything. Otherwise, Flavour Boss will be in risk of being held liable for the use of unsecured personal information. Flavour Boss will not break the Copyright law because they will not be using anything that is not created by me and I will not steal and use any content that does not belong to Flavour Boss.

Companies are required to abide by all rules and regulations in order to prevent violating anybody or anything related to them. The main rules that apply to all businesses online are:

 Consumer rights act  Data protection act  General Data Protection Regulation

A 2015 legislation known as the "Consumer Rights Act" mandates that all promoted items must match their descriptions, and if they don't, the purchaser is responsible for a refund, repair, or replacement. Although the Data Protection Act protects such information, the firm should not keep the information it gets for any longer than is necessary. If the information is used unlawfully, the company will be in breach and may face legal action or even a fine.

By taking a number of steps, Flavour Boss can make sure that their social media activity complies with the Consumer Rights Act. They should have a social media strategy that outlines both their legal responsibilities and their dedication to offering excellent customer service. All employees who oversee the company's social media profiles should be informed of this strategy. They should make sure that the information they post on social media correctly portrays their goods and services and is not false or deceiving. They should make sure that all pricing information is correct and clear, and that any offers, promos, or discounts promoted on social media comply with the Act. They must have a well-defined procedure in place for dealing with client

Content accessible to multiple disabilities like vision-impaired people can have a method of viewing it. Flavour Boss will not be posting content, which will mislead their customer and they will make sure anything they don’t post anything that may offend anyone.

Guidelines for security

It is critical to be aware of potential security dangers when using social media and to take precautions to safeguard your personal data. This entails exercising caution when disclosing private information, such as your home or cell phone number, and being aware of the privacy options on your social media accounts. When creating the account for Flavour Boss I should .Additionally, it is a good idea to avoid clicking on dubious links or downloading unknown files, as well as to use strong, individual passwords for each of your social media accounts. Also, be on the lookout for phishing schemes and avoid providing personal information or login credentials to anybody posing as an official from a social networking site or other online business. Finally, be cautious with the information you share on social media and think about the possible repercussions before doing so. Flavour Boss needs to make sure the Social Medias they are using (YouTube and Instagram) will keep their details safe when they make an account

P4: Review the plan with others in order to identify and inform improvements.

The content plan is what I need to do each step of the way and how I will achieve the task in hand. Below you will see the content plan I created before my peer review:

My improved content plan

What to do How I will do it How will this meet Target audience/ Business aims

Week 1 Ask the owner of the Flavour Boss what they want from me. They will also provide me with information about the business that is crucial to my strategy. The business owner will next hear about which social media platforms would perform best for them after that. Then discuss the aims and targets they wish to achieve.

Learn what the owner of Flavour Boss hopes to achieve, who their target demographic is, and which social media platform they want me to use. Ask owner what the main objective I need to achieve

Within the first week, I will identify the target market, at which time I will begin formulating ideas for how to interact with them with the social media platform that they have chosen. What to share on social media and which platforms would be most effective

Week 2 Make social media accounts, then investigate the best times to publish and hashtags to use.

I'm going to create the two social media accounts and look into what the target market for Flavour Boss is interested in.

This will only attract the correct target audience as they will be the ones searching up the Hashtags

Week 3 When I am done with this, I'll email the owners my plans to make sure everything meets their requirements and is okay.

When I am finished, I'll email the owners my plans to make sure everything is acceptable and fulfils their criteria.

By doing this, I can make sure the Flavour Boss’ owner will like my proposal and that the right people will see my posts.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended certificate in Information Technology Unit 3: Using social media in business Learning aim BC: Develop a plan to use social media in a business to meet Requirements and implement the use of social media in a business.

This content plan is a great improvement compared to the first one as it has the weeks when the activities will start and how I will do the activity. I also added how it will benefit the business requirements and target the targeted audience. This was because of the peer review that I have received.

M-Justify planning decisions made, showing how the plan will fulfil its purpose and business requirements.

I have chosen to make a project plan and a content plan to follow for me to fulfil the main task that was given to mean which was to build a social media presence for Flavour Boss. These planning decisions were made for me to manage myself throughout this project for example my time management and for me to remember what I need to do in each step. In my project plan I have updated it to tell me what I need to do each week and when I should be finished with that task which helps me with the limited time that was given to me. This will make me meet the deadline, which will satisfy Flavour Boss, it will also help me with the smart targets because I will be doing everything that is mentioned on the project plan and by me doing them it will increase the likelihood of me meeting the targets for both YouTube and Instagram. Therefore, by the project plan having weekly timescales it makes me also work with maximum efficiency, as I know what I will be doing, due to me making the plan. I also made sure tasks like monitoring the reaction had enough time because I will need time to see how people interact with the posts and whether I need to optimise my post, so in the plan I included contingencies, which will give me extra time on that task just in case I needed extra time on it.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended certificate in Information Technology Unit 3: Using social media in business Learning aim BC: Develop a plan to use social media in a business to meet Requirements and implement the use of social media in a business. The content plan is what I need to do each step of the way and how I will achieve the task in hand. This will help me with the business requirements, as they want me to build a decent following for Instagram and YouTube, so the content plan that I have made tells what I need to do and how I will be doing it. This makes the tasks quicker because I have already planned what I need to do, for me to achieve the task and build that social media presence. I also considered “How will this meet Target audience/ Business aims” in my content plan because I made sure that each task had a meaning for me to achieve the business aim and me targeting their audience. So I made sure everything is calculated which will make it easier for me to meet the requirements that Flavour Boss has asked from me. Throughout my content plan, I have organised times when I should have meetings with my client, which helps me make sure I am following the business requirements throughout this project. My content plan tells me when after an important task I should ask for my client’s opinion, which helps me meet and follow what Flavour Boss wants me to do.

I have also made a posting schedule because I need to make sure what time I need to post. The posting schedule includes the time of day when I am going to post, and these times have been researched by me for me to know what time each social media is at its maximum activity. This helps me meet the business requirements of building a social media presence because the posting schedule makes me know when I should post, which is the hours that when the platform is at its highest activity. By me following these times, I will be getting better results, which will help me to achieve

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended certificate in Information Technology Unit 3: Using social media in business Learning aim BC: Develop a plan to use social media in a business to meet Requirements and implement the use of social media in a business. #CaribbeanFood will be a key word, as people will search it up because they are feeling like they want some. Flavour Boss will be its own keyword and it will make Flavour Boss appear number one, as it is the name of their business. The hashtags used will be #FlavourBossJerkChicken and other stuff that relates to what the business sales. These keywords will allow Flavour Boss to build a bigger target audience as people will search up this type of words and Flavour Boss will appear which is good as you can use the keywords as hashtags. I will list all the keywords #JamaicanJerkChickenThorntonHeath, #FlavourBossJerkChicken and CaribbeanFoodFlavourBoss. Keywords main thing is to just bring attention to the business when they search up the keywords.

Posting schedule

A posting schedule for a social media account is a strategy that specifies the exact days and hour the content will be posted on a business's social media account. The timetable offers guidance on how frequently and when new material should be posted, assisting the company in maintaining consistency and organisation across all of its social media initiatives.
