DIRECT OBSERVATION

My initial goals were met during the intervention. First, I was able to introduce myself and gain the service user’s approval. I communicated with the client that I was being observed by my PE. I made sure the client understood and agreed.

During the observation, I was able to obtain consent and maintain confidentiality with the service user. Using the resources at my disposal, I was able to get information from the client. I arrived on time and shown professionalism by my professional behaviour, dependability, and skill.

I was able to show my client that I was calm, receptive, and helpful. During the mentoring, I was able to make notes on helpful Anxiety and depression knowledge and skills.

I gained a better understanding of the service as well as additional aspects related to self-harming behaviours. During the observation, I sent my client notes and my PE got feedback from the service user, he was informed that the feedback I received was private and just for the purpose of direct observation.

I received comments that I was straightforward and easy to understand that I was able to communicate easily with the client and that the client was happy with my service in general. I advised the client to use and try to look at some Anxiety Techniques Relief notes I gave him when he is feeling anxious and depressed.

Following that, I explained the following steps and the process for signposting or referring him to the counselling team. I have gained a better understanding of the service policies and methods they use, and I felt that I was able to get the necessary information about my client to assist him and I have sent him an email to let him know I have put him on the waiting list for counselling.

I now have a better knowledge of the nature of risk in my client’s life, I was able to give my client Coping skills and Anxiety advice as well as explain the following stages (assessment/assignment of a keyworker) to understand the referral process in practice. I now feel much more at ease when interacting with clients and understand how to better communicate with them in the future.
