1) After watching the PowerPoint Lectures: The Actor, The Actor's Process and Acting Good or Bad. Discuss how the concepts in Maslow's Theory of Motivation help all actors determine believable fictional physical and vocal behavior.
Motivation in the world of play consists of imaginary situations in the form of a question that the actors must answer to the most minute detail. There are different parameters thatch characterize motivation in theatre. The character of motivation is presented as a question of a person's physical, sociological, and psychological dispensation that helps them to be more assertive as actors (Taormina& Gao,2013).). The three dispositions align with Maslow's theory of motivation as they relate to the three principles that Maslow proposed as the basis of motivation. Based on the tenets of Maslow's theory of motivation, the above elements of motivation for an actor can be related to Maslow's theory as follows.
For an actor to be compelling, he or she must understand the physical attributes of his or her characters. Understanding the nature of the character will help the actor to put on the best act that approximates the physical attributes of the character that an actor is to play. Moreover, an actor must meet the criterion of the character he or she wishes to play. To illustrate, a character should possess physical attributes such as height to fit the character's description
. According to the theory, the second aspect of motivation is meeting a character's sociological aspect. An actor must have the right sociological mindset to relate to other characters within a play effectively. An actor who is malleable and socially creative has an easy time blending and adapting to different scenarios. In close relation, an actor needs to meet the third criterion, which is motivation's psychological aspect. An actor who can identify why he or she is into acting is in a position to set goals for their career. Psychological
2) The actor is the most visible and vulnerable collaborator in any production, whether on stage or screen. After watching the PowerPoint Lecture: Screen Acting and Acting for the Stage, please watch some of your favorite movie stars talk about their process in Actors on Acting.
Discuss the differences and similarities between acting on the stage and acting in film and television.
Acting on the stage and acting in film or television share the same objective of reaching out to the audience. In essence, both categories of acting endeavor to put up a performance that imitates real occurrences but in an imaginary form. While the two categories share the same objective, several differences distinguish them. The most fundamental difference is time and space. In the stage play, the audience is live, and there is proximity to the audience.
Therefore, actors have to be audible, creative, and adaptive. Creativity helps the actor to believe able and easy to relate with (Zarrilli, 2005). On the other hand, in film, actors are cool and maintain a normal conversation, and there is no proximity to the audience. In stage performance, the authors must maintain energy throughout the act. However, the focus of screen play is to maintain the interest of the audience rather than the energy. In essence, there is less stage technique in screen play.
Discuss how the content of these lectures and videos will help you evaluate the acting in future productions. Provide evidence from the lecture and the most meaningful quotes from some of the actors in the video support your observations and opinions.
The content of the lecture offers an array of information and tools for evaluating a work of production. In the future I will be able to analyze different aspects of a production to
be quality the extent to which performance and role interact to bring out the concept of the production. Moreover, the lectures have helped me to understand how to evaluate actors through the concept of motivation.
