  1. Gonorrhea: A. Causative Agents Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by infection with the Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacterium. (CDC,2022)

B. Reservoirs and Modes of Transmission: Humans are the only natural host for Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Gonorrhea is most spread during vaginal, oral, or anal sex.

C. Symptoms:

In women, the symptoms include:

 Unusual vaginal discharge (white or yellow).  Pain in the lower abdomen or pelvis (belly).  Pain during sexual intercourse (dyspareunia).  Pain or burning when you pee (dysuria).  Bleeding between periods.

In men, the symptoms include:

 White, yellow, or green discharge from the penis.  Pain or burning (possibly severe) when peeing (dysuria).  Testicular pain and swollen testicles.

  1. Chlamydia: A. Causative Agents: Chlamydia is a common sexually transmitted disease (STD). It is caused by bacteria called Chlamydia trachomatis.

B. Reservoirs and Modes of Transmission: Humans are the only natural host for Chlamydia trachomatis. Chlamydia spreads through vaginal, anal, or oral sex with someone with the infection. Semen does not have to be present to get or spread the infection. Pregnant people can give chlamydia to their babies during childbirth.

C:

 pain when urinating.  unusual vaginal discharge.  pain in the tummy or pelvis.

 pain during sex.  bleeding after sex.  bleeding between periods.

  1. Syphilis: A. Causative Agents: Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum (CDC,2022)

B. Reservoirs and Modes of Transmission: Humans are the only reservoir. Syphilis spreads from person to person by direct contact with a syphilitic sore, known as a chancre. Chancres can occur in, on, or around the penis, vagina, anus, rectum, and lips or mouth. Syphilis can spread during vaginal, anal, or oral sex.

C. Symptoms:  Small sores(ulcers) on the penis, vagina, or around your bottom(anus).

  1. Genital herpes: A. Causative Agents: Genital herpes is caused by two types of herpes simplex virus. These types include herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) and herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) (Mayo Clinic,2022).

B. Reservoirs and Modes of Transmission: Humans are the reservoir. Infections are transmitted through contact with HSV in herpes lesions, mucosal surfaces, genital secretions, or oral secretions.

C:

 Pain or itching around the genitals.

 Small bumps or blisters around the genitals, anus, or mouth

 Painful ulcers that form when blisters rupture and ooze or bleed
