Concept Analysis CONCEPT - TISSUE INTEGRITY Definition: The state of structurally intact and physiologically functioning epithelial tissues such as the integument (including the skin and subcutaneous tissue) and mucous membrane. Antecedents: <what must occur/be in place for concept to exist/function properly>

  • Intact skin
  • Adequate perfusion
  • Ability of the skin to heal Defining Characteristics/Theoretical Links: <characteristics or theoretical associations that quantify/qualify normal/proper functioning of the concept>
  • Good capillary refill
  • Even hair distribution
  • Skin is warm and dry Consequences (Positive/Desired): < Events or outcomes that occur with normal/proper functioning of the concept or its characteristics>
  • Temp control/regulation
  • Having pain sensation
  • Excretion of wastes (on the skin) Risk Factors/Barriers (if present): <List the factors (physiologic; psychologic; physical) that may influence the normal functioning of the concept or its characteristics>
  • Immobility
  • Chronic disease
  • Age
  • Poor nutrition Consequences (Negative/Undesired): <outcomes that are a result of the improper functioning of the concept or its characteristics>
  • Inadequate perfusion
  • Inadequate temp regulation
  • No protection from microorganisms

Concept Analysis
CONCEPT - TISSUE INTEGRITY
Definition: The state of structurally intact and physiologically functioning epithelial tissues such as the
integument (including the skin and subcutaneous tissue) and mucous membrane.
Antecedents: <what must occur/be in place for concept to exist/function properly>
- Intact skin
- Adequate perfusion
- Ability of the skin to heal
Defining Characteristics/Theoretical Links: <characteristics or theoretical associations that
quantify/qualify normal/proper functioning of the concept>
- Good capillary refill
- Even hair distribution
- Skin is warm and dry
Consequences (Positive/Desired): < Events or outcomes that occur with normal/proper functioning of
the concept or its characteristics>
- Temp control/regulation
- Having pain sensation
- Excretion of wastes (on the skin)
Risk Factors/Barriers (if present): <List the factors (physiologic; psychologic; physical) that may
influence the normal functioning of the concept or its characteristics>
- Immobility
- Chronic disease
- Age
- Poor nutrition
Consequences (Negative/Undesired): <outcomes that are a result of the improper functioning of the
concept or its characteristics>
- Inadequate perfusion
- Inadequate temp regulation
- No protection from microorganisms
