06 Language--Practice FRQ

(Go to FILE, then DOWNLOAD AS, and pick a file that works for you)

You should now have an understanding of how humans communicate through the use of language and an understanding of the relationship between language and thought. You should understand the different ways we acquire language, solve problems, form memories, and how they can all have constraints. It is now time to practice your writing skills and test your long-term memory skills!

Free Response Question

As you get closer to the AP Exam, it is important to understand how exam questions are framed and how they are scored. In this lesson you will write a response to a Free Response Question (FRQ) that is similar to a previous AP Exam question. Your rubric for this assignment differs from an AP scoring guideline in that each question will have more points than is awarded on the AP exam. Your instructor wants you to take this assignment seriously, thus more points. Each year, at least one FRQ is eclectic, asking students to apply and link psychology terms from variety of lessons (cumulative) to a particular scenario. Expect at least one of these cumulative type FRQs on the exam.

FRQs can be intimidating...

But if you understand exactly what the grader is looking for and you know your vocabulary well, the FRQs will give your AP Exam score a boost! Take a look at these fourteen Practical Tips for Writing AP Psychology Essays!

  1. Describe how each of the following relates to the results of the written exam. Definitions alone will not receive points; you must describe/explain. ○ Predictive validity ○ Standardization ○ Declarative Memory ○ Hippocampus
  2. Describe how each of the following might influence Zane’s ability to perform on his oboe during the performance evaluation. Definitions alone will not earn points. ○ Operant conditioning ○ Mental Imagery

○ Cerebellum ○ Frontal lobe ○ Circadian Rhythm

To see FRQs given on past AP exams, to review student sample responses and scoring guidelines, visit AP Central. Once there, you may want to glance at the 1999 FRQ about intelligence tests.
