Part A

Relate each of the following terms to his preparation for successfully taking the exam:

● Hippocampus ● Prefrontal cortex ● Environmental factors on personality and intelligence

Part B

Relate each of the following terms to Jackson's performance on the day of the exam:

● Sympathetic nervous system ● Wernicke’s area ● Cerebellum ● GABA

—---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Part A: The Hippocampus is one of the major components of the brain, this can be located within the temporal lobe. The functions of the hippocampus are mainly memory, and learning. With the help of the hippocampus, this can be very crucial to help Jackson prepare for his exam successfully. Jackson can use this part of his brain to memorize what he will need to know for the exam. He can also use this part of this brain to help him learn anything that he may have been stuck on.

The Prefrontal cortex is apart of the frontal lobe, this is used to describe the frontal part of our brain. The prefrontal cortex helps us with decision making, focusing, planning, etc. This can help Jackson focus while preparing for his exam. This will as well as help with planning what to do to be prepared. Such as what to bring, and what he will need to know.

Environmental factors on personality and intelligence is when the environment affects a person's personality, or intelligence. This may be if someone is trying to work while everyone is talking, it may affect the way that person works. If the environment around Jackson is noisy, it can affect his ability to focus on what he’s doing. A noisy environment could also cause Jackson to get irritated because he can't focus. So it is important that he prepares in a quiet area so he can do his best.

Part B:

The Sympathetic nervous system is where your flight or flight responses come from. This can make someone more alert and aware in a situation. If this is triggered, it can improve Jackson’s eyesight, endurance, reflexes, and his strength. It can also increase his heart rate, make his breath more shallow/faster, and cause his muscles to be tense. So when the day of the exam comes, it is important for Jackson to stay calm.

The Wernicke's area is one of the two cerebral cortexes that are connected to speech. This is where your comprehension of speech and language production comes from. During the exam, the Wernicke's area will help Jackson majorly. This will help him comprehend any instructions that may be given. As well as any written speech on the exam.

The Cerebellum is a part of the hindbrain, it is involved with coordinating movements, balance, and any cognitive functions; language and attention. The cerebellum may be used when someone needs to balance while riding a bike, or when needing to throw a ball. While Jackson is doing the exam, he will need his cerebellum severely. Jackson will use his cerebellum when he is paying attention to the exam. As well as when he is picking up a pencil.

GABA is known to be the most common inhibitory neurotransmitter. GABA releases a natural chemical from the brain to help reduce stress and anxiety. While Jackson walks in, he may feel a sense of stress, his GABA will produce a calming chemical to ensure he stays calm and confident. This will help Jackson when he starts to get stressed out during the exam. And will also help calm his anxiety on whether he feels he got something wrong.
