Final Essay 1. Senator Blinkin, Good Afternoon. To prepare you for your meeting with the leaders of Eastern Europe (Estonia, Russia, Poland) to try to repair ties, it is crucial that you follow these cultural traditions and tips that I provide carefully, or we run the risk of establishing negative International Relations. First, Eastern European’s particularly Russians are quite stoic with their emotions. They do not show many as Americans do, so do not expect much emotion regardless of how this meeting plays out. The Polish revolve their daily lives heavily around religion, specifically Catholicism. This implies that their values stem from the qualities of their religion, which means they unanimously agree as a society things like social justice and equality are important. As for the Estonian President, their language is their passion and people who can Speak Estonian well in their countries are sometimes provided special privileges and opportunities. Please advise that although they are often grouped together, they are very different in terms of their perspective economies, cultures, and social norms. Take great care paying attention to these differences, as this reconnection could bring great economic advantage for the United States.

Mr. Parekh, As your cultural advisor for our upcoming meeting with Chinese telecommunications Huawai, it is important that you pay particular attention to the cultural differences I am about to share with you. With China and India both being countries that hold the world’s largest amount of people, we hold interesting similarities but also even more interesting differences. As with most Asiatic countries, India and China have particularly serious cultural mindsets about family and marriage. Similarly, men are valued significantly higher than women. Women are active within the workforce, so if there are any female executives please treat them with equal respect. Huawei has massive influence in and around China, and they have particular technological advancements within their currency system. Huawei has huge ties to other major Chinese companies, such as Taobao, Alipay, Wechat, and Aliexpress to name a few. We must also enter into this business meeting with an air of caution, as Huawei within the past 5 years has come under scrutiny for potential security concerns current Trade war between China and the United States has recently come to a head with popular Chinese apps “Wechat” and “Tiktok” being removed from the Apple

App Store, which eliminates a large portion of the US’s mobile population to access these apps further. Be mindful of these things moving forward.

Mr. Octavio Romero Oropeza, Your upcoming meeting with the Brazilian/Argentina and Nigerian oil company executives is coming up quite soon. As we only a few days prepare before they arrive, I wish to give you background information about their countries, as well as social norms and customs. Both Brazil and Argentina have differences, small but important to consider while conducting any sort of business. Personal relationships are equally important in both cultures, so put emphasis one creating relationships with the executives before business is spoken about. In business setting, talking over one another isn’t a form of rudeness, but a show of general enthusiasm and interest within the topic being discussed. Punctuality is an important difference to be made aware of. Argentinian’s value punctuality with high regard, while Brazilian’s are often known to be 10 to 16 minutes late to most things. Both countries are incredibly hierarchical are office roles are meant to be strictly followed. Establishing friendships builds trust, which fuel the likelihood of successful relations between our countries. As for Nigeria, investing within the country can pose problems such as corruption, cyber security threats, and potential political unrest. Nigeria has over 300 ethnic groups and dialects, but most executives can and will communicate in English. Be prepared for during instances of business conversation, the topic might turn personal and you might have questions asked about your family, hobbies, and personal life. Please do not take offense to this, as it is considered warm and friendly to exchange personal information like this.

Throughout the extensive book presentation during our last few class sessions of the semester, many of my classmates discussed their book of choice to research. After hearing presentations from books about the US, Africa and India. All three books depicted what poverty was like in their perspective countries, and each author painted their perspective countries' plight slightly differently. Poverty within Africa is viewed as a necessary evil, a by-product of the violence and corruption within the continent's history. It is widely known in today’s society that Africa is considered one of the poorest continents in the world , with multiple countries having poverty rates about 30%. The level of corruption within high ranking government is startling, and it in my opinion is due to greed and selfishness. India is

“Young China” in my opinion is the section dedicated to specific subgroups within the Mainland Chinese population. These subgroups include minorities, low income citizens, and foreign born Chinese as well.
