Sustainable Home Creation

This worksheet is to show how you will create a more sustainable home. The key is to defend your choices with

facts and citing your sources, you do not need to choose a single family home. Cite sources!

Describe the location of your home and why it would be the best for you. Make sure to address: climate, geography, rural/urban/or suburban.

  1. Invest in better house materials

  2. Plastic bottles

  3. Ziploc bags

  4. “Cool roofs are designed to reflect sunlight while absorbing heat” (Constellation, 2022). A cool roof would prevent a household to use less energy when it’s hot outside.

  5. Turning to reusable water bottles will prevent plastic litter and save money.

  6. Finding alternatives to Ziploc bags such as glass containers or sandwich wraps made out of beeswax is more sustainable because it prevents plastic pollution and beeswax is an eco-friendly material (Okafor, 2022)

Energy use What are 3 things that use the most energy in your home? 1) Dryer 2) Refrigerator 3) Air conditioner

How can you decrease your energy consumption? 1) Instead of using a dryer I would install a clothesline to save energy and water.

  1. Downsize fridge and shop for meals weekly.

Water use What are 3 things that use the most water in your home? 1) Sprinkler 2) Sink 3) Washing machine

How can you decrease your water consumption? 1) Watering plants manually

  1. Only use water for washing dishing off with soap. Appy soap before turning on water to save water use.

  2. Washing small loads of clothes manually then hanging clothes on a clothesline to dry
