Deprecated API usage: The SVG back-end is no longer maintained and may be removed in the future. App Above the Rest Summary The ESPN app does a very good job retaining their customers and getting new customers. I would say out of all the sporting apps, ESPN is the most used and well-known sporting app for people of all ages. One reason for this is that ESPN has such a good reputation through television, they reign a lot of power in the sporting app world too. I think that ESPN retains their customers by keeping their app appealing toa younger generation, but also simple enough for the older generations to use. The ESPN app lays out everything in a way that scores are not hard to find at all, the statistics and details of each sporting event may just be a little tougher to find. I also know that when downloading the ESPN app, before you are even able to look at a single score, they have you customize your favorite teams and sports so they can send out push notifications about your favorite teams. When people sign in and chose their favorite teams, they do not realize they are basically signing up for push notifications so when customers see shocking news come through on their phone about their favorite team of player, it almost serves as a surprise and the customers’ credit ESPN. Another way ESPN retains their customers is by sending exclusive articles about sporting events that not many other apps have access to, because ESPN is such a powerhouse in the sports world. When customers realize analysts are writing articles and only ESPN has access to them, they all want to download ESPN, so they too have access to any exclusive articles. The final way ESPN retains their customers is by offering the ability to watch the sporting event through the app if you are not at home to watch it. Because ESPN holds multiple channels on cable, they have the power to provide these channels through mobile apps so customers will never miss a minute of their favorite team’s sports game. With all these features I mentioned, ESPN continues to be the go-to app for customers in the sporting industry.
