Running head: IMPACT OF EMERGING TECHNOLOGY ON THE ECONOMY IN THE U 1

Impact of Emerging Technology on the Economy of the U Juan Camilo Quintana Aguirre Grand Canyon University

Impact of Emerging Technology on the Economy of the U The problem I am going to approach is one of the biggest issues within the United States and it have not had any kind of solution yet and it is Immigration. At the end of the 1950s, the United States allowed the entry of approximately half a million Mexican immigrants a year, of which 450,000 entered with temporary work visas and 50,000 arrived with permanent resident visas. In the mid-1960s, changes in US immigration policy made in the name of civil rights drastically reduced opportunities for legal entry into the United States (Donato, 2020). Temporary work visas were eliminated, and resident visas were limited to 20,000 per year. With opportunities for legal entry restricted, established migration flows simply continued, outside of legal boundaries, starting an unexpected chain reaction of events culminating in an all-out war on immigrants and rapid growth. Moreover, every year, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) usually gets approximately at least 20 millions of immigration request and the system used is most likely paper-based, with a lot of form and it takes too long to be process. An immigration application has an average cost of $400 USD and it could be process in at least 6 months. The process starts when the user mails the form, it goes to the USCIS facility and there are people who check it out and type in information, then get the results and send it to a federal employee known as adjudicator, who checks again the file and he stamps the result. The big question is how can the USCIS get a modern service which can make a high impact change? (Donato, 2020). The United States should have an immigration system which fix inefficient technology processes and has a faster work design and in order to do that the USCIS should implement an emerging technology known as smart robots. With smart robots there will be no need at all to

technologies will have a different impact. The study also argues that digital technology will mainly affect skilled workers with a medium level of training, who are currently engaged in tasks with codable routines such as office and administrative support, and production occupations, such as those related to clothing and repair. On the other hand, digitization has a lesser impact on low-skilled jobs, manual and service jobs, because, according to the study, they require physical dexterity, visual recognition, face-to-face communication and adaptation to situations, something that remains out of reach of current hardware and software. There are companies already working on digitalization as the main goal and it would help to solve a lot of issues including the immigration process which the idea is to be done by smart robots so more people can apply, the USCIS would get more income and also there would be millions of people satisfied with this service. One of the biggest robot company is ABB from Zurich, Switzerland. It is a leader at the forefront, managing the most developed equipment and software, based on a robotic vision. They are located in 100 countries and count with 40, employees (Perzylo, 2019). Thus, there has been already a smart robot with flexible hands and was able to do a specific task such as parts picking with an average speed, so it means we are closer to the smart robots era. For the immigration problem in the U would be so beneficial because there will be no need of employees at all to check those application. There can be a software installed in the robots to have a margin of who is suitable to be approved and who does not, and the waiting time would be reduced significantly.
