Chapter 9 – Nutritional Health and Wellness

Goal: After reading this chapter, you should be able to outline the digestive process; describe the function of six major categories of nutrients; understand the fundamental principles and strategies for healthy eating; list the benefits and challenges of being a vegetarian; and appreciate the value of fasting.

  • From the perspective of religion, God gave humans food, He created them for human to receive with thanks.
  • While food and drinks help the body maintain lively, joy is another “food source” because it’s part of the spirit of a Christian.
  • Because food and drinks are also used for celebration sometimes is easy to be carry away with not having a balance in food intake, is better to not eat for emotional issues, but for love.

Nutritional Habits of College Students

  • A study done by Tufts University (2002) saw that college freshman change drastically in unhealthy ways in their diets due to having more independence, specially on their diets.
