Unit 1 Assignment 3: Identification Of Topic Breon Craig Herzing University NSG 421 Nursing Informatics Mrs. Shelton 11/15/

An explanation of the technology, its history and integration into the healthcare system presently. My chosen topic is patient care delivery. Telemedicine dates back to as early as the late 1950s to the early 1960s (Nesbitt, 2019). Clinicians utilized a closed-circuit television link between the Nebraska Psychiatric Institute and Norfolk State Hospital for psychiatric consultations (Nesbitt, 2019). Medical diagnosis, treatment, and patient care are things that are utilized in telemedicine or telecommunication. While utilizing telehealth the doctors and specialists are given the ability to deliver healthcare, and give patients diagnosis. They can also consider and provide therapy, and even communicate and get advice from other doctors. Thus, the aim of telemedicine is to provide expert-based health care to understaffed remote sites and to provide advanced emergency care through modern telecom- munication and information technologies. Because telemedicine can make healthcare more accessible, especially in rural locations, it is also anticipated that it would boost justice and equity in the distribution of services. Although earlier methods (telephone, fax) are still often used, telemedicine applications are increasingly using the most recent developments in computer and network technology as well as other hardware. Any new technology must be demonstrated to be superior to the method it is meant to replace, i., to be more efficient or less expensive than the alternative, before being adopted into routine usage This is true of telemedicine as well. There is growing understanding that before telemedicine systems can be considered for widespread routine usage, they must first undergo evaluation and continued collection of pertinent data for administrative purposes. Additionally, evaluation of telemedicine applications is required to support purchasing and planning decisions as well as to track and adjust how the technology is used once it is in place. An ideal assessment would

nurse practitioner thanks to telemedicine. It can be quicker when processes are set up so that new patients can schedule an appointment with the next practitioner who is available. Conclusion In the areas of acute condition diagnosis and management, as well as postoperative assessment of patients in remote locations, telemedicine is highly suited for providing care to disadvantaged communities. It provides patients with a wide range of possible advantages and enhances the abilities of nearby practitioners. It works well for providing a remote emergency department with urgent professional consultation. Significant gains can be expected by reducing the requirement for acute transfers to the tertiary hospital.
