There are standards for training in field placement that all school psychologists should complete their professional work in order to show their skills and hell they will impact their future career. The one that hi have exhibited skills from my prior professional work would be my diversity in development and learning. Having a safe space for everyone no matter their background including families and cultures and other contexts is very important to me to help provide a safe environment for the children. while completing my undergraduate classes I took extensive classes within the diversity topic. My minor is also in sociology which talks about how society sees certain things and how certain biases and backgrounds affects people and how they are seen. This helped me develop empathy and trying to relate to people in order to look up their point of view. This can also help comfort to children and to develop a plan that fits them. I have also learned diversity through my internship in which the school is so big that there are kids of all backgrounds and cultures available. This has been helpful to help me learn diversity in a real world setting and how the school psychologist handles different kids have different backgrounds. I have also seen firsthand how when children do not understand diversity then they can be hateful towards another group. These are things that I’m not necessarily taught in a classroom setting but more learned through the real world. When helping the children culture can be a very important part because they may not follow through with something that goes against their culture, for example taking modern day medicine when their religion does not believe in it. This learning within diversity can also help with social justice to help serve your community the best you are able to and what fits their needs best based on their background. When you put something in terms of what the child knows, then they can help them solve issues within different contexts. This could make them overall better rounded. When learning about providing a diverse knowledge within helping create advocacy for different backgrounds such as ethnicity and disabilities. Helping with this would not only help the child in need but the environment so the child feels comfortable. In today’s society, there are many problems that can be seen with a lack of diversity. Shown with powerful movements such as Black Lives Matter, that there is still inequality being exhibited in modern day times. I believe that education can help these problems a lot. From my learning it is clear that when people do not understand something, or afraid, then they are mean and violent to that thing. We can help this by providing education to children so that they understand what is going on and can learn from an early age that you need to accept a diverse learning place. A diverse learning place is also ideal so that children can learn all about different cultures and practices. Before entering college, I grew up in a small town that was not diverse at all. When arriving at college that was a lot of culture shock that happened. This helped open my eyes that there are a lot of people different from me and I did not know how to interact with them,

because it was never taught in my school system. Once taking other college within my college major, it was clear to me how important diversity is to helping people understand different people. I want to help others learn that it is okay to be different and is actually encouraged.
