STEP THREE – LEARNING OBJECTIVE:

Mother will verbalize and demonstrate all the steps on how to do CPR by the end of the teaching session on

04/16/2023.

STEP FOUR - TEACHING PLAN STRATEGY AND EVALUATION:

Teaching Strategies (Complete two) Evaluation of Each Teaching Strategy

1. Hold a teaching session for the patient

and patient’s spouse on how to

properly perform adequate and

sufficient compressions.

  • Place infant on a firm surface and

maintain airway.

  • Place two fingers in the middle of the

sternum

  • Use two fingers to compress the chest

about ½’ to 1’ at the rate of 100/min.

1. Teaching session was appropriate for the client,

spouse, and environment. Client stated that being

hands on in learning was very beneficial to her.

Mother and her significant other were both attentive

and engaged in learning. No barriers were met during

this session.

2. Demonstrate to the mother on how to

to perform the Heimlich Maneuver on

infant.

  • Support the baby’s neck with one arm.
  • Position the baby face down with head

lower than the body.

  • Apply 5 back thrusts between shoulder

blade with one hand.

  • Turn baby over, still supporting neck

with arm.

  • Apply 5 chest thrusts using 2-3 fingers

about 1in’ deep.

  • Repeat until choking hazard becomes

dislodged.

2. Demonstration of CPR and Heimlich maneuver on the

hospital dummy was successful. Both mom and dad were

engaged in learning and successfully demonstrated techniques

in a proper manner.

Patient needs to be taught CPR and needs to be taught to quit removing the hat from the infant’s head
