Thinking about People

1. Describe two of your most important reference groups (groups of friends or institutions). Discuss

several similarities and differences between these two groups. Overall are there more similarities or

differences?

2. List several stereotypes of teachers and discuss (without using names) whether your teachers this

year fit these stereotypes.

3. If you were dating someone for several months and then found out that this person was extremely

prejudiced against a certain ethnic group, do you think you might eventually stop dating this person

for this reason? Yes? No? Depends? Explain.

4. Compare some of the attitudes you have today with those you had when you were younger. Have

they remained the same? If yes, do you express them differently? Explain. If your attitudes have

changed, in what ways? Explain.

5. How does a person with a different perspective develop credibility with you? Describe a real

example of when a person with a different viewpoint was able to persuade you to think differently

about something.
