Complex plane notes
Example 1: show (2+4i)+(5+3i) graphically
-You can look at this problem and know the answer because you know how to find the answer algebraic ally. When we add the real parts we get 2 + 5 = 7, and when
we add the imaginary parts we get 4i+3i=7i. Putting those together you have an answer of 7+7i.
1. Plot both complex numbers
2. Draw arrows to both points from the origin.
3. Add the 5+3i arrow (purple) to the 2+4i arrow (green). That is go up five and right three from the point (2, 4) instead
of the origin. You can also add the green arrow to the purple arrow.
4. You are at the point (7, 7) which represents 7+7i (blue arrow)
