Team: Anthony Mba, Coral Pease, Hayley Hansen, Daniel Yoo Topic Religion Separation between church and state. Different restrictions no living on campus at college level. ride busses if in middle school. Stricter policies with sickness. Education wise: they deserve an education like everyone else. Note: state state or nation wide. Majority goes against (18states personal belief with vaccines) Intro Definitions: Do you agree or disagree? If you disagree, provide other definition and explain why you disagree, but will argue within definition parameters. official order. To put into law. Publicly every political division of a state wherein taxes are levied for public purposes Fully list of most dangerous Medically any condition where getting the required vaccine could be harmful to their health. Claim: We oppose that The US department of health and human services should mandate that all students in public institutions should be fully vaccinated unless medically compromised. Refutation Statement: Mandating that all students be fully vaccinated would go against certain religions and violates the first amendment going against freedom of religion and would also restrict access to public education. There would also be an economic downfall of the lower to middle class of America because there would not be enough resources to fulfill that mandate. Our plan would be to update and improve current restrictions on those with vaccine exemptions. We would not required them to get the shot but to follow certain restrictions to keep all students safe and to encourage less exemptions. Contention 1:Against religion and religious rights to the student or students attending school. Support: (E: 1) According to the National Conference of State Legislatures list of states that allow religious exemptions, imposing a mandate like the one in the proposition would violate the already in place legislature recognized the U and individual states. Stated the same organization, religious exemption is, .. provision in the statute that allows parents to exempt their children from vaccination if it contradicts their sincere religious While Vaccination is considered to be one of the greatest public health achievements in the 20th century, for many religions it goes against what they practice. (E: 2) According to the Croatian Medical Journal, religions like Catholicism, view the way vaccines are made as the most morally questionable issue. To elaborate, the Pontifical Academy for Life, (E: 3) an academy of the Roman Catholic Church dedicated to addressing issues of bioethics within their religion, wrote a letter to a troubled parent who wanted clarification and a document to show officials for vaccine exemption. The letter contained the Contention 2: not allowing exemptions, you would be restricting their access to public education. Support: of parents of children revealed that of children with nonmedical exemptions to the school vaccine requirements received at least some Most students with exemptions are at least partially covered against diseases. They should not be kicked out of public schools because of one or two missing vaccines, especially vaccines to diseases that are less likely to spread among school children. belief exemptions provide an alternative for children whose parents have strong beliefs about vaccination and also serve to decrease resistance to school vaccination In allowing zero exemptions, you are increasing the risk for resistance to vaccination policies. Increased resistance might cause more parents to refuse vaccines for their children. rates were significantly higher in US private than in public schools. Children attending private schools may be at higher risk of vaccinepreventable diseases than public school not allowing unvaccinated children in public schools, more will have to go to private schools. The concentration of students in private schools would increase and make the risk of spreading disease higher, than if the nonvaccinated were spread out among all schools. findings that of US universities have one or more PIRs, that exemptions can be difficult to obtain, and that noncompliance is often met with undesirable administrative response may be useful to parents as they make decisions about vaccinating their Vaccination decisions are not made children, but parents. The decisions could affect their chances of getting into college later because of the strict exemption rules. the time students are in college they can most likely go above their parents and get the required vaccines, however younger children do not have this option. With your proposal, children would have less access to public education, not because of something they did, but because of their parents. Contention 3: Economic issue amongst classes in the United States of America. Because of the need for vaccination, the demand has increased, leaving some of the programs short of what they need or only a select group receives these immunization. Support: BMC Public Health health programs may reduce absolute risk but increase inequity may be further compounded screening Thus saying that most minorities are the ones who lack the benefit when it comes to programs set up for Some follow through with their actions leaving out a whole group of people missing their vaccinations. Health Reference Center Academic most difficult challenge for immunization performance measurement is the exponential :relationship between missing immunization data and misclassification of immunization status. Because some study designs can introduce ascertainment bias, the tendency of series measures to magnify the impact of missing immunization data will, in turn, magnify the ascertainment bias. Careful attention to technical issues can improve the accuracy of immunization health services research and With this most people will have their vaccines but will be demanded to get the same shot because of miscommunication with records for the child. That the or the parents fault, but the blame of the doctors and clinics responsible for holding those records. Oregon State University if the student have insurance or if the insurence denies the vaccine payment, it goes straight to their student account to which some cannot afford to pay which hinders their education at said to the restrictions for those who choose not to get vaccinated will help lower the risk of spreading disease and encourage them to get vaccinated. Advantages of Alternate Improvement: What we have now shows that there are already few people who are already vaccinated. The united states is a diverse country and we will never get everybody to agree. better to let them make their own decisions then to force everyone onto the same path for there will be retaliation. To keep everyone safe we would add to the current restrictions to further help protect those for vaccines. Support: From the CDC: Percent of children aged months receiving vaccinations for Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis doses DTP, DT, or DTaP): Polio doses): Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) doses): Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) (primary series booster dose): Hepatitis B (Hep B) doses): Chickenpox (Varicella) doses): Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) doses): There are already very few that have the required vaccine. The risk is already relatively low and adding these further restrictions would help lower the risk. A regulation such as this would help prevent diseases from spreading further amongst the students. Support: processing fees to a comprehensive set of administrative requirements for obtaining exemptions will avoid the use of taxpayer funding for exemption processing and will help tilt the balance of convenience in favor of Stated the American Public Health Association, this type of plan is similar to the type of plan that we propose to help reduce exemption. It pays for itself and that it could be easily done. Even though it is not the same exactly, it is very similar to our plan and with some slight adjustments our plan could be just as easily implemented into the school system. Support: argue that adding processing fees to a comprehensive set of administrative requirements for obtaining exemptions will avoid the use of taxpayer funding for exemption processing and will help tilt the balance of convenience in favor of vaccination. have also found that stricter exemption laws can decrease or restrict the growth of these rates and there reduce outbreak proof from the American Health Public Association that this plan has been tried and proven to work. Conclusion and Clincher Our conclusion is that mandating a policy that is already in effect would not help the situation we are currently in. Do you really want to restrict a access to public education when the issue is not in control of the child but the parent of the child who decides they want them vaccinated?
