Etiology- cause of illness by a disorder.

Disorders
I. Anxiety Disorders
A. Phobias simple, social agoraphobia
B. Panic disorder
C. Generalized Anxiety: Anxiety that is with a person all the time. They have a hard time
sleeping. They have a feeling that never stops. They are in that fight or flight mode all the time. They feel
as though the world is a dangerous place.
Treatment: Medication
D. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD):
Obsession: cannot stop thinking about something.
Example: I can’t stop thinking about having germs. I am scared of them!
Compulsive: psychical
Example: They would wash their hands over 60 times a day to the point where
they are more susceptible to germs.
Hoarding: A form of OCD because they can’t get rid of things. There is this obsession that they
just want to collect everything for occasions. Everything from animals to garbage and it brings a great
amount anxiety when you want to clean their house.
Body Dysmorphic Disorder: She had an obsession over physical traits and she was aware of
her traits and differences. This is external!
E. Post-Traumatic Disorder (PTSD): Life threatening event
This is a form of anxiety disorder happens 6 months later after the event. This is most
commonly found in war veterans. They are reminded of a traumatic event from hearing something.
Example: A war veteran goes to a horse race and they hear the gun shot they are
immediately thinking of the war and they get really bad anxiety. To the point where they don’t want to
be there anymore.

II. Dissociative Disorders
A. Dissociative Amnesia: Is a person who does not a brain memory however, they do not
remember people or how to do something. This is a psychological trauma and they don’t check out.
