Welcome to Nursing Care of the Older Adult! Winter 2022

My name is Professor Finelli, and I will be facilitating your recorded and live lectures this quarter. I am very interactive in the learning process and believe when a person has fun learning, they are much more receptive and learn more, so be prepared to interact, and have fun! There are no right or wrong answers. Be fair and honest with yourself. We are applying new knowledge gained in the didactic setting.

I will post any pertinent information in the course room in the Getting Started tab (Start Here) in the Additional Course Material / Recorded lessons folder.

Please start with the Getting Started / Additional Course Material tab.

Points to Ponder:

  1. Read your syllabus and course catalog.

  2. Read your Announcements.

I will post a WEEKLY announcement. A copy of the announcement is also in your Rasmussen email. Announcements contain the current week's requirements, such as goals, assignments, and any additional information you may need for the course.

  1. Check the Additional Course Material / Recorded lessons.

I post all information, such as a copy of the welcome email, course project outline, and recordings.

  1. We will have 3 live lectures to assist in your understanding of the course material. All live lectures are open for all students to attend. There will be two times for each live lecture. Please be on time for live lectures.

All live lessons are recorded and placed in the Additional Course Material / Recorded lessons folder.

First, live lesson - Week 1 - Tuesday, January 4 at 1000 - 1130 am and 1300 - 1430.

Second, live lesson - Week 2 – Monday, January 10 at 1000 - 1130 am and 1300 - 1430.

Third, live lesson - Week 5 - Monday, January 31 at 1000 - 1130 am and 1300 - 1430.

Live Lessons are not mandatory BUT ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED !!!

Live Lessons assist with understanding course material, answering questions, and participating in specific course activities. All live lessons are recorded and placed in the Additional Course Material / Recorded lessons folder. There will be a code word for each live lesson, which must be posted on Sunday by 1159 PM (2359) in the live lesson dropbox.

  1. There is a weekly quiz for each module ( Weeks 1-10 ) and no quiz on week 11.

Quizzes are on Sundays and are open from 9:00 am to 10:00 am.

All quizzes will require Respondus.

There are no quiz makeups!!

  1. Course project:

Read the Course Project Overview in the course room under the Getting Started Tab / Additional Course Material folder.

The Course Project Overview contains the student project topic selection, expectations, directions, and each rubric for the course project. Please ensure you follow assignment/project directions and rubrics.

I have preselected student topics for the course project. The project list is in the Course Project Overview and the Topic Selection document. Topic preselection ensures all topics are covered and distributed evenly throughout the class. If there is an issue with your topic, please notify me in week ONE.

*** Failure to follow the directions/rubric may result in a ZERO for that section. Please see the

Course Project Overview for details**.**

  1. Assignments:

All assignment due dates are on the course calendar. Late assignments have a 10% grade deduction per day.

  1. Please, post a welcome introduction to the discussion board by Tuesday, January 4, 2022, 11:59 pm.

Tell me the following:

a. Name and what your nursing aspirations are.

b. What you would like to learn from this class.

c. Any concerns you may have as you start this quarter.

Once again.... Please watch announcements VERY CAREFULLY, as things may change quickly. I want everyone to be current on information and prepared for possible updates.

All students should know what to expect from my course to be successful. I am here to help facilitate your learning. Please keep me advised of any concerns you may have.

Be sure to review your readings and videos within the weekly lessons before taking your quizzes.

Thank you,

Professor Finelli
