Notes on the words/phrases/language used by main character(s)

Notes on the words/phrases used by other character(s) Phil and Claire are supposed to set off for home in the car. Their children, Haley, Alex, and Luke are “flying back.” As the scene continues, you can see how each character’s actions involve some sort of lying to each other.

Cam, Mitch, and Lily are all in Missouri for Cam’s dying grandma. Mitch’s actions during a time of mourning are inconsiderate. Only

Claire smiles about death as a coping mechanism. She has done it since she was a child when Mitchell’s hamster dies.

Gloria and her sister, speak in Spanish. They recognize that they have some major daddy’s issues.

because Cam’s grandma called him a sissy. Even going to the lengths in her will to leave him a bag of makeup. Lily seems to fit right in with Cam’s side. When Mitch is left alone, she grabs his hair prompting him to scream "Let go!” and she dies.

Conclusion about framing in this entry of the sample Each family had a disastrous trip. We discover that each family member has a struggle with telling the truth. Especially in the Dunphy family. Instead of spending time with each other they act like they are not in the same place. The victim in the family is Mitchell because he is being blamed for a death he did not cause. Everything was about their issues and not fathers day.

Conclusion about framing in this entry of the sample It seems like each family is having their own crisis’s. Alex is the victim. Mitch and Cam need to hear their daughter out before jumping to conclusions. No one pays attention to Phil after having serious symptoms of PTSD.

Notes on the words/phrases/language used by main character(s)

Notes on the words/phrases used by other character(s) Cam allowed one of his players to move into their house, neglecting Lily’s feelings throughout the whole episode.

Mitchell feels like there is always a lack of communication and he just does without asking. Mitch volunteered to take care of a dog without asking Cameron to prove a point.

Alex cannot talk because of her throat and doctors’ orders.

Haley meets Phil’s promotion boss, and it shows that Phil doesn’t believe in her Phil is trying to sell the murder house; Murphy is trying to help her out Haley gets a bunch of people to view the house and a potential buyer for Phil.

Manny is also running for president before Luke knows. Gloria and Jay are trying to convince Luke not to run. Luke wins and it was the lowest turnout rate for a student election because they hated the both of them. Conclusion about framing in this entry of the sample Manny is going back into a depressive state after losing the election again. There is a lack of communication with Mitchell and Cam. No one is supporting Haley with her social media job.

6 If you get “others,” please clarify that in your analysis paper.

one supports Haley.

Final comments/observations about your sample:

None.

Modern Family was running for 11 seasons on Freeform, but it is now Hulu. This sitcom follows the lives of modern families.

Modern family showcases the difficulties of parenthood. Through each family, you can see their internal struggles while staying close and

accepting advice from each other. These moments are the moments that allow them to grow closer. Providing us with lovable, comical

moments that are unforgettable. Episode one, season eight, A Tale of Three Cities, shows the families on separate vacations. The Dunphy's

are in New York; Mitch, Cam, and Lily are in Missouri; Jay, Gloria, Manny, and Joe are in Mexico (Hulu). As you follow each of their

journeys, you realize more and more about the families. Letting you see deception, lies, death, and their issues fully. Episode two, season

eight, A Stereotypical Day, shows a typical day for all of them (Hulu). Allowing us to understand how each of them responds to each other

regarding sickness, PTSD, open-mindedness, and so much more.

Shining a light on how unaccepting they all are. This leads us into episode three, season eight, Blindsided, where Haley has a

social media job that her parents do not fully understand (Hulu). Cam and Mitch argue about the lack of communication and how he never

addresses anything before he does it. Although, each family member lacks contact with each other. The characters' names are Sofia Vergara-

Gloria Delgado, Rico Rodriguez-Manny Delgado, Jeremy Maguire-Joe Pritchett, Ed O'Neil-Jay Pritchett, Sarah Hyland-Haley Dunphy, Ariel

Winter-Alex Dunphy, Nolan Gould-Luke Dunphy, Julie Bowen-Claire Dunphy, Ty Durrell-Phil Dunphy, Eric Stonestreet-Cameron Tucker,

Aubrey Anderson-Emmons-Lily Tucker-Pritchett, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson-Mitchell Pritchett. Each Family revolves around a nuclear,

blended, and same sex living in the Los Angeles area. Race, sexual orientation, gender, generation, and geography are similar in the first

three episodes. Most of the cast is white, heterosexual males and females living in the suburbs in the working class. The outliers are Black,

Latino, and Asian for ethnicity. One transgender actor on the show. Framing information for sexual orientation as gay is seven. In these three

episodes, only two mental illnesses are displayed, PTSD and depression. I expected it to be mainly heterosexual males and females.

However, since the show involves same-sex marriage, it is more evolved than other sitcoms at the time.

An example of this is the Dunphy family. Being a nuclear/ conjugal center on a married couple and their children. Usually,

this kind of family was popularized in the 20th century. I felt the representation of race/ethnicity was good in the show. Some complicated

things were Claire smiling at death. However, I believe that some viewers would not fully understand. In our society, it is not normalized to

smile at death. I think that it should be normalized. I use it as a coping mechanism myself. How are you supposed to react? I believe adding
