Unit 1 Practice FRQ

Biological Theory. I feel like Arianna is feeling like this because of her parents. These feelings that she has are probably from generations of her parents. So this is probably why she is feeling like this. So maybe the next generation maybe like this too. Her kids and their kids and so on could be like this. There is a possible chance.

Evolutionary Approach. Evolutionary Approach is a theoretical approach in the social and natural sciences that examines psychological structure from a modern evolutionary perspective. So this basically has to do with social and natural sciences. As it says, it says Arianna often leaves social situations like school dances and parties because she feels like she will have a panic attack. And this is an Evolutionary Approach because it states in the definition that its a social and natural science that examines psychological structure.

Psychodynamic Approach. The Psychodynamic Approach includes all the theories in psychology that see human functioning based upon the interaction of drives and forces within the person. This correlates with Arianna’s behavior because she feels like she is forced to do things. She feels like “it’s right”. Although it does not specifically say this in the description you can tell with context clues. You can tell that maybe she is forced to do things. And the things that she is going through, this could be a possible option.

Behavioral Approach. The behaviorist perspective is concerned with how environmental factors affect observable behavior. The behaviorist perspective proposes two main processes whereby people learn from their environment: namely classical conditioning and operant conditioning. And this is obviously speaking of Arianna’s behavior description. She has a behavioral approach because she reacts to different problems differently than other people. She has a different behavior, so to say.

Cognitive Approach. Cognitive theory is an approach to psychology that attempts to explain human behavior by understanding your thought processes. So with Arianna’s situation, she probably has a different cognitive approach than others. With all that she is going through, she actually should have a different cognitive approach to certain situations. For example, she might get scared of something that other people won’t. Like being in a car, her father might have died in a car crash and she feels scared to go in the car because it reminds her of her father.

Humanistic Approach. Humanistic psychology is a perspective that emphasizes looking at the whole individual and stresses concepts such as free will, self-efficacy, and self-actualization. Rather than concentrating on dysfunction, humanistic psychology strives to help people fulfill

their potential and maximize their well-being. So, again, Arianna has a different humanistic approach than others. So by looking at this definition of a humanistic approach and by looking at Arianna’s description, you can tell that she can sometimes feel stressed about small things or “not important” situations. Again, this could run in her family.

Social-Cultural Approach. The social-Cultural approach is how behavior and thinking vary across situations and cultures. So in Arianna’s situation, the social-cultural approach can really affect her in some ways. Socially wise, she could, as I stated before she leaves her school dances and events and such because she feels like she would have a panic attack. Culturally, she could feel that someone might make fun of her culture if she talks to someone. So maybe that is why she doesn’t like to go to social events.
