Interviews with the Experts: Assignment Sheet

The Interviews with the Experts Videos are intended to extend your understanding of the material in the textbook by giving you a behind-the-scenes look at aspects of personality and its application by some of the leaders in the field. There are no right or wrong answers, but your grade will be based on the nature, quality, and relevance of your responses.

  1. Imagine that you are writing a brief description of this video for people who are considering watching it. How would you characterize or summarize it (in 50-75 words).

Dr. Vinson gives personality assessments to her interviewees and taught a lot of her students assessments at graduate levels. She has worked with the CEO of Bed, Bath and Beyond. Some of the aspects that a lot of these companies were looking for were for people that are extraverted, a leader etc.

  1. Identify any three “take-aways” that you got from this video. These could be any points that it made, thoughts that it sparked, or issues or applications that it discussed.

Take-Away #1: Dr. Vinson used the “Hogan Personality Inventory assessment” with many companies as a way to help employers find good employees.

Take-Away #2: Dr. Vinson has her own private practice.

Take-Away #3: Dr. Vinson didn’t know what she wanted to go into, like therapy, but then she got introduced to personality assessments and uses them regularly.

  1. Imagine that you are writing a review of this video that summarizes your evaluation of it. Please indicate what you liked BEST and LEAST about the video and give it a rating (based on a 5-star system). Note that the evaluation of your response is based on your identifying the things you liked BEST and LEAST, and your assignment of rating, and NOT the number stars you give it or whether you liked or disliked the video. Your evaluations will be helpful in relation to encouraging you to reflect more deeply on the video, and provide us with feedback that can be useful in relation to the value of the video’s use in the future. Be sure to identify:

A). What I liked Best:

Dr. Vinson was very interesting. I love personality tests and I thought this interview was pretty cool to listen to.

B). What I liked Least (or would like to have heard more about):

I wish she talked more about her private practice.

C). My overall rating: (1 to 5 stars): 5
