Interviews with the Experts: Assignment Sheet

The Interviews with the Experts Videos are intended to extend your understanding of the material in the textbook by giving you a behind-the-scenes look at aspects of personality and its application by some of the leaders in the field. There are no right or wrong answers, but your grade will be based on the nature, quality, and relevance of your responses.

  1. Imagine that you are writing a brief description of this video for people who are considering watching it. How would you characterize or summarize it (in 50-75 words). Dr. Georgette Saad mentions her work with Latinx children and families and adults who act out behaviorally depending on their stages of life. She also discussed her parent-child studies and the skills and influences that this builds later in life. A caregiver figure can have a major impact in a child’s life because children pick up everything adults say and do in life even without realization.

  2. Identify any three “take-aways” that you got from this video. These could be any points that it made, thoughts that it sparked, or issues or applications that it discussed.

Take-Away #1:__Dr. Saad offers her services in Spanish which is very important for the latinx families she works with to have access to someone who can help them understand in their own language.

Take-Away #2: _Dr. Saad made me realize that not all hope is lost if early intervention steps are not taken right away. She mentioned the story of the teen with the stacked papers/files full, but after working with him, he was able to live a happy fulfilling life.

Take-Away #3: _Dr. Saad mentions the different coping styles and behaviors that can be developed and affected based on whether the child has a neglectful or overly anxious caregiver. This can also play a role in how the children view the world and what traits they are end up with when they are grown.

  1. Imagine that you are writing a review of this video that summarizes your evaluation of it. Please indicate what you liked BEST and LEAST about the video and give it a rating (based on a 5-star system). Note that the evaluation of your response is based on your identifying the things you liked BEST and LEAST, and your assignment of rating, and NOT the number stars you give it or whether you liked or disliked the video. Your evaluations will be helpful in relation to encouraging you to reflect more deeply on the video, and provide us with feedback that can be useful in relation to the value of the video’s use in the future. Be sure to identify:

A). What I liked Best: Dr. Saad is confident and very empathetic in her field. It is obvious she cares about helping others in her career. She talks about her clinical studies and the topics more in the sense she really cares about people rather than just it being a simple interest. She makes the world hopeful the way she talks about how she helps parent-child relationships even for future generations. I know many people who could have benefited from working with someone like Dr. Saad.

B). What I liked Least (or would like to have heard more about): There seemed to be a little bit of discord during some of the talk. It is the longest video we have had so far, but either she did not completely explain certain concepts or Dr. N was working to pull information out of her. Sometimes she would take the questions given and go a different way about explaining things.

C). My overall rating: (1 to 5 stars): 4_
