Interviews with the Experts: Assignment Sheet

The Interviews with the Experts Videos are intended to extend your understanding of the material in the textbook by giving you a behind-the-scenes look at aspects of personality and its application by some of the leaders in the field. There are no right or wrong answers, but your grade will be based on the nature, quality, and relevance of your responses.

Imagine that you are writing a brief description of this video for people who are considering watching it. How would you characterize or summarize it (in 50-75 words).

Dr. Neimeyer speaks with Dr. Taylor as he describes “logotherapy.” Logotherapy is the concept of will to meaning and the therapy uses metaphors as well as other techniques to help clients find meaning in their lives. But also Dr. Taylor expresses the importance of suffering in the search for meaning. Suffering won’t hold you back but will sometimes put you forward because it’s the attitude you control. 2. Identify any three “take-aways” that you got from this video. These could be any points that it made, thoughts that it sparked, or issues or applications that it discussed.

Take-Away #1: The main effects of genetic influences is also impacting of biological tendencies because it tends to seek out certain environments and people seek it out with similar interests.

Take-Away #2: The development of evolution of technology helps psychologists to explore the past theories that were already found and relate them to our findings now. Also using science.

Take-Away #3: Research and observations show that some people are prone to divorce but Dr. Froming believes that there isn’t a specifc gene or DNA that presents the likelihood of getting divorces which essentially what the research is saying about traits and behaviors.
