Reflections

  1. In looking at your overall score, as well as your “peaks” and “valleys,” what stands out to you about how you scored? Any surprises? How do those scores fit with your perception of yourself?

I was really startled to learn that I had a psychoticism score of 9, as I don't consider myself to be a person who exhibits a wide range of culturally incongruent strange, quirky, or uncommon behaviors or cognitions. I don't think it surprises me too much that my "valley" was in a bad mood because I consider myself to be an emotionally stable person who recovers quickly from any setbacks.

  1. Before you took this inventory, think about how you would have RANKED yourself of the five dimensions, from highest to lowest. Compare that ranking to your actual ranking based on your scores. How do those rankings compare and what sense do you make of any differences?

I would have ranked it in the order of: Detachment, Antagonism, Negative Affectivity, Disinhibition and Psychoticism.

My actual ranking: Psychoticism > detachment > antagonism = disinhibition > negative affect.

I had the highest psychoticism score, 9, which may raise some questions about any emotional or behavioral tendencies linked to this dimension. But if I had to order these categories, I would have placed this one last. The questions, in my opinion, are subject to many circumstances and contexts. For instance, I consider myself to be creative and imaginative, thus my thoughts frequently don't make sense to other people since I frequently think outside the box or develop a fresh new idea rather than relying on conventional techniques.

  1. Can you think of anyone who you know who would likely score HIGH on any of these dimensions? If so, what concerns might you have for them in relation to their reactions or behavior? I can think of a few friends from high school or pals from my past who might score highly in some of these categories, but I can't think of anyone near to me who would. In high school, a couple of the girls in my grade would self-harm by cutting their wrists, and they would also take antidepressants and anxiety medications. These girls would probably rate highly on the scale of negative affectivity.

  2. For each of the 5 dimensions, nominate one or more psychological disorders or problematic behaviors that you think they might be prone towards as a result of being high on that dimension:

Negative Affectivity Anxiety attacks, or severe depression, with feelings that they’re not good enough or that their life has no true meaning. Detachment Social withdrawal, not wanting to be in a large crowd, avoiding people or social events. Antagonism Wanting to be the center of attention in all things, and not caring for the feelings of others. Disinhibition Impulsivity in decisions, and easily influenced by others. Psychoticism Experimenting with alcohol, drugs to avoid their problems or going to extremes in terms of beliefs.

  1. Reflect on your experience in taking this PID-5 assessment and interpreting its scores. What was your experience like and what, if anything, did you learn as a result?

It was a solid test. Though not entirely correct, this exam provides a solid indication of many troublesome personality traits. I had to give several of the questions some serious thought, and many of them depend on the circumstance, surroundings, or context. I was a little taken aback by how well I did overall out of 75 points. My test result, a 33, indicates
