Case Management in Corrections Paper

Case management is commonly regarded as the foundation of effective service provision across a wide range of human service settings (Day, A. (A). Basic case management responsibilities may include assessments connected to interviews that will determine placement and needs for the client. The needs are based on information about the client that they provide to the case managers such as medical history, demographics, family issues, any prior evaluations, and goals that the client wishes to accomplish. The case manager takes all the information they have from the client and create a profile just for that client. From what they have their able to look possibly into different treatment programs, medication or into further evaluation. The case manager monitors the client and the providers that are given the client to ensure that the client is well taken care of and that they're benefiting from the services. Case managers keep track of the client’s attendance, behaviors and progression. They're keeping track by taking notes and logging major signs or events from client that may or could raise concerns, reason or questions. These are some of the duties to many that generally case managers are dealing with day to day basis.

When it comes to a correctional case manager, some of the roles are the same because the setting is different there are other responsibilities as well. Correctional case managers help with ways to reduce recidivism rates in inmates. Once they assess the inmate, they put together different services that will encourage and help the inmate start a new life and stay out of trouble. Each case will vary, but as a case manager they will be handling several cases at the same time. Some of the cases they will be handling will include high risk cases that includes an inmate that is considered dangerous, which may include more attention, patient and detail. In a situation such as this one the caseload won't be as much if it was a regular inmate.

The services offered at the conclude depends on the client or inmate. There will be some individuals who became very successful towards the end of the treatment and there will be some who needed some more work. There is truly no end to treatment but after some time of going there must be results whether they're good or bad which the case manager logs. The ones who did better may be in a position where they have a new job, started a new family or wants to continue treatment because they have seen the positive effects. They may just be offered counseling. For the ones who didn’t do so well they will have to either continue treatment o9r offer another service through the case manager depending on how their situation is.
