Evaluation Model Paper CJA/ John Baiamonte November 12, 2018
For this paper I have selected an evaluation model that I have determined has the most applicability and relevance to criminal justice policy today. I will summarize the model I have chosen and provide an analysis and explanation for my choice. Lastly, I will show how my model could be used to evaluate a specific criminal justice policy of program. The most common types of evaluation are formative evaluation, process/implementation evaluation, outcome/effectiveness evaluation, and impact evaluation. Formative evaluation ensures that a policy is feasible, appropriate, and acceptable before it is fully implemented. It is usually conducted when a new policy is being developed or when a new one is being adapted or modified. Process/implementation evaluation determines whether policies have been implemented as intended. Outcome/effectiveness evaluation measures policy effects in the target population by assessing the progress in the outcomes or outcome objectives that the policy is to achieve. Impact evaluation assesses policy effectiveness in achieving its ultimate goals. The model I have chosen is process evaluation and program monitoring. It is used as soon as the policy implementation begins and during operation of an existing policy. This model shows a couple of different things including: How well the policy is working. The extent to which the policy is being implemented as designed. Whether the policy is accessible an acceptable to its target population. Just as the model shows many things, it is also useful too. It provides an early warning for any problems that may occur. It also allows policies to be monitored to see how well the policy plans and activities are working.
In summary, I selected an evaluation model that I believe has the most applicability and relevance to criminal justice policy today. I summarized the model that I chose and provided an analysis and explanation for my choice. Lastly, I showed how my model could be used to evaluate a specific criminal justice policy of program. The model chosen was the process evaluation and program monitoring. It is used at the beginning of the implementation process and during the duration of the policy as well.
