The Interviews with the Experts Videos are intended to extend your understanding of the
material in the textbook by giving you a behind-the-scenes look at aspects of personality and its
application by some of the leaders in the field. There are no right or wrong answers, but your
grade will be based on the nature, quality, and relevance of your responses.
1. Imagine that you are writing a brief description of this video for people who are
considering watching it. How would you characterize or summarize it (in 50-75 words).
Dr. Saad works with primarily with children and a few adults that demonstrate
externalizing behaviors rather than internalized behaviors. These behaviors can include
erratic behavior and tantrums in children and substance abuse in adults. In her interview,
she also describes what attachment styles are and how they affect you throughout life.
2. Identify any three “take-aways” that you got from this video. These could be any points
that it made, thoughts that it sparked, or issues or applications that it discussed.
Take-Away #1:
Parents determine a child’s attachment style, two very impactful presentations of
parenting styles include, overbearing and protective, and neglectful. Both styles can
impact the child greatly throughout life, they may have struggles learning how to
navigate their own lives when they get older because they were not taught anything.
Take-Away #2:
Dr. Saad states that the early years of child development are the most important and have
the greatest impact on how the child develops into an adult. The early years of child
development shapes their personality because their brains are developing rapidly and
taking everything in like a sponge, therefore, if a parent is consistently anxious, the child
will pick up on this and is likely to exhibit similar behaviors.
Take-Away #3:
Children need a sense of security; they need to know that someone is always in their
corner. Dr. Saad give an example of a child that she worked with, she picked him up
every day from school and although it was not something that she thought would have a
big impact, it did because the child had something that he could count on.
3. Imagine that you are writing a review of this video that summarizes your evaluation of it.

(based on a 5-star system). Note that the evaluation of your response is based on your
identifying the things you liked BEST and LEAST, and your assignment of rating, and
NOT the number stars you give it or whether you liked or disliked the video. Your
