Another report (not official)

Task

Your Principal would like to know how technology is being used in each of the subjects taught in the IB Diploma. You have been asked to write a report on English B classes. Write the report, describing how technology is used, in which classes, and explaining the opinions of students and teachers.

Response

Hi Mrs Principal. You asked me to write a report about how we use technology in English B classes. It is nice that you trusted me to do this, so here’s the report.

People say that in one class they use technology a lot, most of the time they are working together on laptops, finding stuff on internet and writing with Googledocs, people think this is cool and good. On another class, they don’t use technology at all but they can write assignments on their laptops at home. What they do in class is talk a lot, the teacher tells them about things and then they discuss it or write things down but not on laptops. This seems strange to me, in other subjects we use technology all the time, after all you have technology everywhere now. But people in this class say they like the teacher a lot because he’s interesting and fun.

Another teacher only uses technology sometimes, it depends on what work they have to do. I think it’s good to talk in class and then the teacher says ‘turn on your laptops and find something about this on the internet’. People in this class think this works quite good, because they do talking and also technology, and sometimes they see cool videos on the smartboard.

Peoples opinions are different. When I asked the teachers they said that they think that sometimes technology helps and sometimes not. One teacher said that he doesn’t want students looking at Facebook and stuff like that in class, that is true but I think that you can look at FB quickly and that doesn’t matter much. Another teacher said that it is important to do both things, everybody talking in the whole group and then sometimes working with a laptop and thinking on their own or with a small group, that way you use technology as it should be used like a tool.

People in English B are quite happy, in different groups, because the teachers do things good in different ways. The main opinion is that when you use technology you can decide things for yourself and be more responsible what what you look and write, you don’t have to do what the teacher tells you all the time, well the teacher tells you to do something but how you do it is your decision and technology lets you do things in lots of different ways.

But basically, people said that they like their classes, they’re different ways in classes of English B, but I think each way is OK in its own way.

Thank you for reading this report and I hope it helps.

Sincerely

Louis
