NURS 497 Professional Nursing SMART GOALS

Directions: Write 2 long-term and 3 short-term goals (or vice versa) professional nursing SMART goals. Each goal must be written in the SMART format and include a month and year deadline. In addition, each SMART goal must include 3 Action Steps that need to be accomplished to meet the goal. SMART goals must be related ONLY to your professional nursing career development and growth.

Short Term Goal 1 SMART Goal (Month/Year): I will pass my exit exam on October 27, 2023

Action Items:

  1. Review all the content
  2. Do practice tests
  3. Remediate topics that were missed

Short Term Goal 2 SMART Goal (Month/Year): I will pass the Nclex on the first attempt in November, 2023

Action Items:

  1. Study and review all relevant content areas
  2. Complete modules on VATI
  3. Do practice questions and remediate

Long Term Goal 3 SMART Goal (Month/Year): I will get an offer for a position in the ER at Memorial Hospital by December, 2023

Action Items:

  1. Update my resume and letters of recommendation
  2. Complete the application process
  3. Attend my interview and make a good impression on the unit’s director

Long Term Goal 4 SMART Goal (Month/Year): I will get experience and get a position in the OR at Memorial Hospital by January, 2024

Action Items:

  1. Learn and improve skills in the previous unit
  2. Apply to position
  3. Apply previous knowledge and be open to learn new skills

Long Term Goal 5 SMART Goal(Month/Year): I will continue my education and pursue my Master’s degree by August, 2026

Action Items:

  1. Work as a nurse for 2 years
  2. Research school programs for Master’s in nursing
  3. Apply to a school and complete admission process
