Week One Journal: Career Services Workshop West Coast University Professor
The career services workshop brought a lot of light of how real and how close we are getting to the finish line of nursing school. In this environment of being a part of an accelerated program, we are constantly on the go whether that would be studying for an exam, studying for skills/validations, being at clinical, and just having an overall life outside of nursing school. With that, most of us are too busy to even think about a career after nursing school, because we are focused on just the term itself. Career services provided us students with a very informational presentation on how to seek employment after graduation as a new graduate. Career services provided a meeting link so we can discuss one on one what our goals are for after we graduate and how we can reach them. Benefits to meeting with a career advisor include having professionals give you advice on how to tailor your job search, how to fix your resume, what is recommended for the resume, what employers look for, what documentation is needed for the portfolios, and establishing recruiter relationships. Career services are specialized in this field of connecting students with a future career. For some who may never had a job or someone to guide them, this allows a personal time to understand and ask all the questions they may have about how to get started with finding a career. This also gives students an opportunity to think about their future. This term is very work heavy, and I think the last thing on my mind is a career. At this moment I just want to pass my classes, pass the exit exam, and pass the NCLEX, then I can worry about securing a job, so this is helpful for students.
