Educational Foundations D097 - November 2021

Teacher Interview-

■ 1. Application of content standards used in your state ● fldoe/academics/standards/Link for content standards used in Florida. ● Start by attending Professional Development over summer break to keep refreshed on content standards for the state of Florida. Also, use pacing guides marked for every semester. Schools give benchmarks and help teachers plan around them. ● Post standards in the classroom, by using a focus wall in my classroom, you can review the material that will be taught that week, and then have a class discussion on what the standard is. ● Internal and external influences that impact education at your school or district internal and External Influences that Impact Education ● In the classroom challenge students, use higher-order thinking questions. This helps them refer back to the text to provide evidence to support their answers. Also, allow the students to teach their peers. Put a few different rewards in place for the students that achieve their learning goals. Students that move up the charts receive classroom rewards, grade level rewards, then principal rewards. This can be a highly effective system with an internal impact that can be used. The external influence used in school can be bringing parents into schools to celebrate the success of their children. To keep the communication open with the parent’s teachers like to send home weekly letters with updates of how the week went. Also, teachers like to send home all the work students did for the week so parents can keep track of the progress. ● Teacher identity and view of self ● Pushed herself to do more engaging lessons, provide rigor, and collaborate with other teammates. Having to be open to change.

● Skills and practices are needed to be a successful teacher. All hands on deck. See as many teaching styles as possible and ask questions. Be open to all teaching styles and find what works for you. Find teachers with great classroom management and take notes. Learn to go with the flow. ● She preferred small group instruction as her teaching style. Not all students are alike so she likes to tailor lessons to meet the need of some students. The use of Kagon- children learning from each other. And group exercises. ● Ways teachers can continue to grow in their teaching practice or professional development ● Look at data where the students struggle most. Look for what would be engaging to students and reteaching if needed in a small group setting. Schools and districts work towards closing achievement gaps by the use of the RTI process. Road to interventions. A 3 step system. This gives teachers and parents the resource to work together toward one goal of getting the child where they need to be. ● Professional Development ● The tools and resources most often used for continued growth is technology, online resources, weekly department meetings with teammates. Professional development over the summer. ● Find available professional development or go to administration if struggling. Ask teammates for help. Don’t be afraid to reach out for help and advice. ● 2. How did you feel before the interview? ● I felt nervous about sitting down to ask questions to someone I only know on a professional level. Watching her teaching style made me wonder if I have what it takes to become an effective teacher. Would I do what it takes to help my students achieve their goals? Can I make a lasting impact on my students? ● I felt more comfortable during the interview. The teacher I questioned was very accommodating. She allowed me to come early and stay after the interview to see some of her teaching practices. This was very informative for me to see how she ran her classroom. ● It went very well. She said when she first started she asked herself the same questions. She felt complemented having an aspiring

and how they taught each lesson and what progress they made. I think this is healthy for the teachers in each department for a few reasons. First, It allows them to make self goals and measure them against their peers. Second, It gives them a soundboard to bounce ideas and or concerns. Third, It gives the teachers a sense of accountability. 5. Conclusion: ● In conclusion, I feel very comfortable with the interview and the information she gave to me. The teacher I interviewed affirmed for me that I can not wait to be an Elementary school teacher. I learned that in order to be an effective teacher, I need to always be open to learning from others’ triumphs and mistakes. I should be open to receiving help from my teammates. Teaching in an elementary school can be difficult but help is provided. From the administration to paraprofessionals. I learned there are more tools than I thought too because of a more productive instructor. Teachers are provided instruction throughout the school year and even over the summer break. If I had to do the interview again I would ask more personal questions. I would ask about the types of teachers that influenced her. Questions about the struggles and triumphs she has gone through. Is she the teacher today she wanted to be before she started teaching? What made her want to be an elementary teacher? What has been the most challenging thing for her while teaching? I think asking those questions would have provided a different perspective on a more personal level. The interview would have changed from the information on productive teaching practices to individual inspirations. 6. Action: ● I am a change agent and believe all students can improve. Learning has a lot to do with perspectives, particularly the perspective of the teacher , the parent, and the learner. Successful learning requires targeted perspectives, and it is the responsibility of all those surrounding the learner to build up, support, and develop positive perspectives. Teachers and parents need to work together to provide a healthy environment for students to learn. When students feel positive about learning they are

more likely to be eager to learn, N., Hattie, J., and Fisher, D. (2018)

Developing Assessment Capable Visible Learners: grades K-12. Corwin Press:

USA.

● I know my strength is a positive attitude and open communication. With a positive attitude, I have been able to overcome my usually shy exterior. Great teachers don’t sit at a desk all day reading material from a book. They engage, they inspire, and they transform. I remember the teachers I had in school. have I think open communication with the student and guardian is needed for the child to be successful. When parents

know what is going on in the classroom they are more likely to be involved in helping the teacher and student success.

My smart goal. ● Improve my time management skills. ○ List out a list of things that waste time. Keep the list out in the open that I can see at any time. ● Get rid of distractions ○ Delete social media apps, turn off television district Interna higher-order, and make my workspace quiet. ● Set goals and reminders ○ Make goals both weekly and daily. Set reminders often to keep on track. Reward me for the things that are harder to achieve. ● Complete the most important tasks first ○ By prioritizing the hardest task first, I will be able to knock out my tasks at a much faster pace. The most important task may not always be the hardest but by putting it off; most often it causes stress upon me to know it is still not accomplished. ● Do not multitask ○ I am a person that can not multitask. I know my limits and how much I can handle them. ● Use free time wisely ○ I try to use my free time wisely when sitting on my lunch break, waiting in car pickup for kids, or waiting on a load of laundry to finish the spin cycle. I can use those few extra minutes to knock out a task on my list. Which will bring me one step closer to achieving my goal. ● Do research. ○ Search ways to better achieve my goal. Read books, join a group forum, ask for advice from people who are successful in time management. ● S – specific ○ ( My goal is to improve my time management skills.)I want to complete at least 1 class a month. ● M– meaningful, measurable, motivating
