NAME: Greyton SURNAME: Lubisi Student Number: 23L TASK 1 1 An IT Infrastructure is a fundamental component that powers a company’s technological operations and services 1 There are two main types of IT infrastructure: On-premises and cloud-based. An On- premises infrastructure is an old-school approach where a company owns and runs all its tech stuff, like computers and software on its website. In contrast, a Cloud infrastructure is where a company gets its computing power, storage, and other tech services over the internet from a third-party provider. 1 The Five main components of IT Infrastructure are Hardware, Software, Network, Data, and Facilities. Hardware includes physical devices like servers, desktop computers, laptops, and storage devices. Software refers to the operating systems, applications, and other programs that run on the hardware such as productivity apps, enterprise applications, and other custom software’s. The Network component incorporates communication techs, such as wireless and wired networks, that enable a user to activate data transmission and connectivity between devices. Data is a combination of information and digital assets that are stored, processed, and transmitted through the IT infrastructure such as file servers and cloud storage, and lastly, the Facilities include real-life physical buildings, server rooms, cooling systems, and power supplies that house and support the IT infrastructure. 1 IT infrastructure enables online shopping by powering the e-commerce website, processing transactions, and delivering content to customers. The web servers, databases, networks, and cloud services that support the e-commerce platform are part of the company’s IT infrastructure. 1 The real reasons why a business would want to transition from a small- scale to a large-scale would be, the increased demand of a business since the business develops growth the existing infrastructure may

become overwhelmed and unable to handle higher traffic, transactions, and data requirements, secondly, business need higher availability, redundancy, and disaster recovery, thirdly, some business desire more advanced features, security, and management capabilities. 1 The purpose of a client in a network is to access and utilize the resources and services provided by servers. 1 The purpose of a server in a network is to provide shared resources, services, and data to client devices. 1 Web server, Application server, and Data server. TASK 2 2 Represents different functional units that make up a Network 2 (a) Internet; Connects all computer systems (b) Modem; A network device that plays a crucial role in connecting computers to the internet (c) Firewall; Monitors and controls incoming and outgoing network traffic based on predetermined security rules (d) Wireless Router; Facilitate communication between different networks by forwarding data packets based on network layer addresses (e) Switch; Facilitate connectivity between end devices and rest of the network as they are responsible for forwarding data frames between devices within the same local area network (f) Workstation; Interact with the user (g) Laptop; Interact directly with the user and support user applications (h) Printer; Internet connected device that is the destination of data transmitted over the network TASK 3

4 No, because we are not using the same devices 4 Subnet Mask (255.255.255); Default Gateway (146.231.108), Yes, because we are all using the same server 4 It acts as bridge, allowing devices within a local network to communicate with devices on other networks 4 309c23e814ea 4 Ensures that data reaches the correct destination TASK 5 5. 5. 5 The time varies because of the distance and the traffic between the server connections

(a) chunks of data (b)The data is broken into small packets for transmission, then are independently routed through a network (c) Sent= 4, Received =4, Lost= 0 (d)The time varies because of the distance between the server hosting and the IP address of someone closer to me is located at a closer distance than the server hosting the harvard website TASK 6 6. 6 over a maximum of 30 hops 6 No
