INDIAN WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP ROLE
‘The question isn’t who’s going to let me, it’s who is going to stop me’
-Ayn Rand, perfectly resonate with the empowering and growing status of
women in India. Transcending not only the political sphere but also permeating
the very fabric of society. From a history marred by struggles for survival and the
fight for basic rights in the face of an orthodox society, marked by practices such
as sati (widow burning), Parda (veiling), and balvivah (child marriage). They have
risen to positions of power and influence, shattering glass ceilings and made their
mark in various fields, reshaping gender roles and inspiring generations to come.
This journey from struggle to crown has been a bitter one, far from one can
imagine. To understand the roots and the seeds that germinated these valiant and
fearless thoughts, we are reminded of the iconic lines, ‘Khub Ladi Mardani, Who
Toh Jhansi Wali Rani Thi’- a tribute to the lioness of India, RANI LAKSHMIBAI.
Alongside her, we remembered the remarkable figures of history such as the great
RAZIA SULTANA, HAZARAT MAHAL, SAROJINI NAIDU, INDIRA
GANDHI, and many more who shook the world and laid the foundation for
women’s rights, opening golden gates of opportunities. They have served as
inspiration for countless struggling and suffering women in this male dominated
society. These remarkable women have paved the way for progress, equality and
empowerment of women in our society.
In the present era, women who were once associated with wearing bangles have
transcended their traditional roles and are now asserting their basic rights,
including access to education, while actively combating domestic harassment.
They have expanded their sphere of influence beyond the confines of the
household and emerged as influential leaders, not only within the nation but also
on the global stage. Prominent figures such as NIRMALA SITARAMAN, KIRAN
MAZUMDAR, CHANDA KOCHHAR, and many others have defied
conventional expectations, pushing the boundaries of success to new heights.
