Total Hip Replacement ( THR)
A THR use two- device consisting of an acetabular cup that is inserted
into the acetabulum and a femoral component that is inserted into the
femur to replace the femoral head and neck.
Pre operative care
❖ Explain procedure to the patient.
❖ Assess the neurovascular starus(circulation,sensation,mobility)
❖ A surgeon frequently order a prophylactic antibiotic
preoperatively to minimize the chance of an infection.
❖ The patient donates blood before surgery per guidelines.
❖ Some hospitals have joint camp programs where group of patient
undergoing joint replacement are admitted on same day.
Post operative care.
❖ Provide general post operative care
❖ Prevent complications.
Complications of THR
❖ Hip dislocation
❖ Skin breakdown
❖ Infection
❖ Bleeding
❖ Pain
❖ Thromboembolic complication(DVT,PE,TE)
