LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of this assignment, you should be able to:

  1. Explain the technologies, methods and tools required in website development.
  2. Identify the important scripting languages used in website development and be able to apply the scripting languages in web design and development.
  3. Identify and apply the concept of user interface design related to Web application.

PROJECT TITLES

As one of the members of a Web Development Team that consists of 3 – 4 persons, you have been assigned to develop a website for a student organisation. The objective is to create a website that will serve as a platform for both members and non-members who are looking for information, activities and resources.

The student organisation must fall into one of the following categories:

i. Academic and educational These organizations are typically founded on particular fields of study, for examples, accounting, programming, mathematic, linguistic, etc. Students can participate in events, forums or programs that can develop their skills and help them gain valuable experience. ii. Sports Organizations that encourage participation in, promotion and support of a particular sport in university such as football, basketball, swimming, tennis, etc. iii. Art and Recreation Organisations that bring together students who share common interests in particular hobbies such as camping, dancing, hiking or rock climbing. These organisations offer opportunities for students to experience both on-campus and off-campus activities. iv. Cultural & International Organization with membership that is comprised mostly of international students whose purpose is to provide social activities, cultural awareness and other activities that support and enhance the international student experience. v. Health and Wellness These organizations promote healthy habits and work toward creating a desire to maintain a healthy life in society. For examples, veganism, fitness, smoking and alcohol addiction Support Groups.

Your group is required to design and develop a fully working website. The Web site must demonstrate good usage and appropriateness of multimedia elements. You are expected to provide suitable interfaces by applying design principles and a fully functional navigation component. Multimedia elements and JavaScript must be included in the website for interaction and presentation purposes. You will need to meet various implementation requirements, but the actual content of the website is entirely up to you.

 Subject  Project Title  Date Assigned (the date the group assignment was handed out)  Date Completed (the date the report is due to be handed in)  APU logo 3. Recommended Content  Acknowledgement  Table of Contents - The table of contents should have the topic title and reference page number attached to each topic.  Introduction - This section introduces your project including the background information, goal of your website, and objectives, scopes, targeted audiences, project schedule and a summary of the major sections of your website.  Storyboard & Modelling - The section defines a storyboard which consists of a series of wireframes (a wireframe is a blueprint of a single page), and a website navigation diagram. You are required to discuss the design decisions made for the interface design and website structure.  Discussion - Explain how the proposed system solves the existing problems and addresses opportunities. You may also discuss major technical problems faced during development and how do you solve these problems.  Future Enhancements – Explain problems and shortcomings of your website and how you can solve these in the future.  Conclusions  References – Strictly APA style referencing  Attachments – Include at least 5 meeting minutes or progression reports, meeting attendance sheet & a signed workload matrix. The weekly report should include what you have done for the entire development cycle.

SUBMISSION

The documentation must be submitted online to Moodle in one MS Word document (.docx) or one Adobe Acrobat document (.pdf).

All other necessary files to run the website must be submitted to Moodle as a zipped folder.

PRESENTATION

You are required to present your website to the lecturer, and the presentation will be judged accordingly. You can use any of the presentation software, e. PowerPoint or record a presentation video.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

The group in-course assignment is weighted at 70 % of overall percentage with the following composition:  60% contributed by implementation and solution components (CLO2), and  10% contributed by documentation and presentation components (CLO3).

The total marks of documentation component is 100. The entire group efforts will be assessed based on the following criteria:
