PATENT INVENTION DISCLOSURE

1. DESCRIPTION

Title of Invention The title of the invention shall indicate clearly and concisely the subject matter of the invention

Responsive Façade: Solid and Void Shading Device

Recursive Element Design

The principles and guidelines of Recursive will be carefully utilized in the design stage at the design studio. A recursive element is, by definition, a procedure in which the same guideline or formula is used to multiple results to produce the following outcomes in a sequence (Collins, n). Responsive Facades, which adapt to changing weather conditions, play an important part in minimizing building energy consumption while enhancing visual comfort (Valitabar M et al., 2018). According to research by Schittich, C (2001, as cited in Building skins: concepts, layers, materials, Edition Detail), the building envelope, or façade, is the public face of a building and hence has a significant effect on the perception of the building (Valitabar M et al., 2018). Regarding angle, distance from façade, and louver sizes, the louver angle is more essential than other quality in terms of daylight and energy consumption of the space (Valitabar M et al., 2018). As a consequence, more energy will be consumed and more expenses will be needed necessary to keep a space's illumination in great condition.

Figure 1 Recursive Pattern Inspiration

The pattern of the façade was inspired by “Acoustic walls”. This type of pattern combined solid, void, and recursive elements to create a pattern of façade on the building. On that, the optimum of daylight would make a visual comfortable and energetic. Using the concept of solid and void. Qrd diffusers are meant to be used in arrays of multiple panels. The face of the block faces multiple views. Providing multi-reflection on both vertical and horizontal planes

Figure 4 The combination of that pattern creates a sense of harmonies and beauty proportion in balance.

Then the second rule is the size and displacement of the pattern which creates an attractive undulating pattern for the building facade. This step implements the solid and void principle in creating a hollow section for the pattern to penetrate the daylight through the spaces. The combination of size manages to achieve the optimum lux value while creating an interesting shadow casting towards the interior spaces of the building.

Technical Field

Describe the art or technology to which the invention relates

A responsive façade solid and void shading device is a new proposal of the invention within the discourse of sustainability technology. The new invention intends to natural daylight design to enhance daylight performance and therefore limit the usage of artificial lighting in creative learning and occupant’s performance environment, in the context of sustainable building design. Therefore, excessive energy consumption due to artificial lighting and mechanical cooling can be prevented.

Background Art Closest Prior Art(s) to Your Invention 1. Journal Publication 1: Daylighting Effect on Occupant Health and Alertness Edwards, L., Torcellini, P., When daylight systems are appropriately constructed and maintained, daylighting benefits building inhabitants' health, productivity, and safety. Natural light is extremely advantageous in commercial buildings since it not only helps to optimize efficiency but also enhances workplace conditions and increases occupant productivity (Natural Lighting Challenges & Solutions for Commercial Buildings, n.). However, the intensity of daylight needed, the sort of workplace desired, privacy needs, and the overall architecture of the building should all affect the type and placement of windows (Natural Lighting Challenges & Solutions for Commercial Buildings, n.).

effect on occupant health and alertness but not on the bigger aspect like visual comfort for building occupants. 2. Journal Publication 2: The journal discusses passive design whereas the building form itself acts as the self-shading device. It breaks the objective of this project where we need to construct the new invention façade that has been implemented as building skin. 3. Journal Publication 3: This reinvention building might need high maintenance costs for future development. The building façade design does not suitable for the tropical climate in Malaysia.

  1. ESSENTIAL FEATURE(S) / KEY COMPONENTS OF YOUR INVENTION

Based on the “Background Art”, explain the solution by your invention on the problem:

Fixed Undulating Cubic Façade: The new invention aims to create a variety of daylight penetration into spaces. Furthermore, the interior spaces would change from a depressing vibe into a psychologically inspiring space by integrating a variety of opening responsive façades. In addition, the inhabitant’s health, productivity, creativity, and safety will gain from a better appropriate construction and maintenance of the responsive aesthetic façade.

Optimum Value of Daylight: According to the main objective of the study is to design a façade that is suited for penetration daylight and able to optimize daylight quality in the building. In order to follow the recommended average illuminance by IES Standard MS1525, this responsive aesthetic façade design has been assisted to achieve and maintain the optimum value of daylighting in the building.

Figure 8 Recommended Average Illuminance Levels - Lux

Glassfiber Reinforcement Concrete: The use of this material will ease the construction part which saves time and costs of assembling the façade pattern. It assists in future façade maintenance work.

Communicated with Surrounding Environment: Through this new facade invention, the visibility of the building occupants towards the outside is not limited. So, it can enhance the productivity of building occupants in terms of creativity and inspiration. Essential feature(s)/ key components of your invention: 1. Responsive Aesthetic Façade – Solid & Void Façade Shading Device (Horizontal and Vertical Shading). 2. Façade design responds to the surrounding environment to create an inspiring vista. 3. Suite to the tropical climate and respond to the daylight penetration into the building.

State the advantageous effects of the invention compared to the prior art

  1. The use of this material will ease the construction part which saves time and costs of assembling the façade pattern. It assists in future façade maintenance work for the fixed facade.
  2. The new invention development of the façade pattern.
  3. Contribute energy sustainability to the building in which it is to be installed.
  4. This façade pattern is suitable for the tropical climate in Malaysia.

Specification

The façade pattern is made up of glassfiber reinforcement concrete for lightweight, easy to maintain, and feasible manufacturing costs. Each of the façade patterns is a combination of horizontal and vertical shading devices to optimum daylight in the interior space.

Your invention keyword: 1. Responsive Aesthetic Façade. 2. Feasible manufacturing façade cost. 3. Solid and Void Shading devices (horizontal and vertical)

4. ABSTRACT

The Art of Music Performing Commercial Centre project focus on optimizing daylight with implement a responsive aesthetic facade to optimum daylight in the o building. All of the available direct and indirect sunlight during the day is combined to create daylight. A room should go from a depressing vibe into a psychologically inspiring one by integrating daylight. The potential of daylighting to irradiate a space and fill it with energy encourages incorporating daylighting into buildings wherever feasible. In order to complete this project, an effective recursive facade must be designed and capable of getting optimum daylight penetration into the building.

Based on the psychological health of inhabitants is considerably improved by exposure to daylight, which reduces headaches, eye strains, and stress. Daylight infiltration is a collaborative effort between the building's façade and surrounding zones, which would be managed by façade treatment. Furthermore, based on data collected from the journal, article reviews, site observation, and synthesis, and concerning a case study, this study will investigate possible daylight design strategies for the proposed building in Taman Pelangi, Johor Bahru, Johor.
