LAYING OUT A SIMPLE CURVE USING OFFETS FROM TANGENT

I. OBJECTIVES

  1. To lay out a simple curve using offsets from the tangent length by 3-4-5 triangle method.

II. INTRODUCTION

Curves are usually employed to make the change in direction at the intersection of straight lines gradual. The purpose of curves is to deflect a vehicle travelling along one of the tangents safely and comfortably through a deflection angle I (Khan, 2015). A type of curve is a reverse curve used seldomly in highways or railways due to their instantaneous change in direction at point of reverse curve PRC. This cure is aesthetically appealing and thus are used in park roads, formal paths, waterway channels, and etc. (Taylor, 2013).
