2023 Women’s Month Quiz Bowl Mechanics Employees Category (Teaching and Non-Teaching)

General Guidelines

  1. Each cluster is entitled to have three (3) representatives who will compose a TEAM.

  2. Among the three participants, one must be assigned to register the team and automatically the cluster.

4 contest is divided into three (3) phases: the Easy, Moderate, and Difficult Phases.

5 between phases, there will be a five-minute lull.

  1. At the end of each phase, the cumulative score of each team/contestant will be computed.

7 the end of the contest, the group with the highest cumulative score will be declared the Champion. The next three highest scoring teams will be declared First, Second, and Third Runners up, respectively.

Reading Mechanics

  1. Answering the questions during the Easy phase will be limited to fifteen (15) seconds per question. For the Moderate phase, it will be limited to twenty (20) seconds per question. For the Difficult phase, it will be limited to twenty (20) seconds per question.

  2. Questions will be read twice by the quiz host. After the second reading, a timer will automatically start counting down according to the time limit set for each round.

  3. After the time and the buzzer sounds, the team should STOP writing and raise the writing boards. The answer of the team violating this rule will be considered void.

Answering Mechanics

1 TEAM contestant will be provided with official writing boards.

2 complete answers will merit credit. Incomplete answers shall be considered wrong answers.

3 audience must observe silence while the contest is going on. COACHING IS STRICTLY NOT ALLOWED FROM THE AUDIENCE.

4 point shall be deducted from the total score of the TEAM contestant for every violation of any of the contest rules. Any violation will be signaled by a VIOLATION CALL which will be done, identified and confirmed by the Officer of the Academic Contest Committee.

Scoring Mechanics

1 quiz contest will follow a point system of scoring.

  1. Points shall be awarded as follows:

Protest Mechanics

  1. A protest may be raised by any contestant or coach. All protests shall be forwarded to the judges for decision.
