Learning Outcomes: At the end of the lesson, the learners are able to:

  1. identify the Filipino inventions,
  2. give the relevance of the invention to Filipino society

Discussion: Filipinos have their own inventions to be proud of. 1 jeepney (e- jeepney)

  • One of the most recognizable national symbols of the Philippines, and most popular mode of transportation in the country. Due to the demands of more responsive transportation technology, the e-jeepney was introduced in Metro Manila and Bacolod city. E- jeepneys are designed environmentally friendly, eliminating noise and air pollution as the run in electricity. They are also very economical.
  1. Erythromycin -The Ilongo scientist, Abelardo Aguilar, invented this anti-biotic out of a bacterium called, Streptomyces erytheus.

  2. Medical incubator -Fe del Mundo was credited for the invention of incubator and jaundice relieving device. Del mundo was the first woman paediatrician to be admitted at Harvard University , School of Medicine. She is the founder of the first pediatric hospital in the country.

  3. mole remover

  • In 2000,a local invention that had the ability to easily remove moles and warts on the skin without the need for surgical procedure. Rolando dela Cruz is credited for this invention. This mole remover is made up of cashew nut extracts which is common in the Philippines. The indigeneous formula easily caught for its accessibility, affordability, painless and scarless procedure.
  1. Banana Ketchup -A Filipino technologist, Maria Orosa invented the banana ketchup. The invention appeals particularly to the Filipinos who love condiments in their food.
