Introductory Message

For the facilitator:

Welcome to the Technical-Vocational Livelihood 12 Self-Learning Module on Read Measurements In Terms of Current and Voltage.

This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators both from public and private institutions to assist you, the teacher or facilitator in helping the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their personal, social, and economic constraints in schooling.

This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help learners acquire the needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the body of the module:

Notes to the Teacher

This contains helpful tips or strategies that will help you in guiding the learners.

As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage their own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist the learners as they do the tasks included in the module.

For the learner:

Welcome to the Technical-Vocational Livelihood 12 Self-Learning Module on Read Measurements In Terms of Current and Voltage.

This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You will be enabled to process the contents of the learning resource while being an active learner.

iii

This module has the following parts:

Activity : This will bring understanding to what you already know and experience to what you should learn further.

Analysis : In this phase, you will process and classify what is valid and not for a more in-depth understanding.

Abstraction : This part leads you in reinforcing what you know and should know more. Exercises are presented for independent practice to solidify your understanding and skills of the topic.

Application : This stage brings you to a more practical way that you are going to use what you have learned and think new ways on how it can be improved further.

iv

CONTENT STANDARD The learner demonstrates an understanding of the underlying principles in the installation of standard electrical protection system for lighting and grounding.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD The learner independently installs electrical protection system for lighting and grounding based on the Philippine Electrical Code (PEC) standards and Local Code/Utility Company Regulations.

LEARNING COMPETENCIES L. 1 Plan and Prepare Work 3 Read measurements in terms of: 3.1. Resistance 3.1. Current 3.1. Voltage (TLE_IAEI9-12EP-Ia-j-1)

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. Determine the equivalent count per tick within a specific range of a scale of the multi-tester for current and voltage.
  2. Read measurements in terms of current and voltage.
  3. Express interest on determining the equivalent count per tick in the scale and the set range of selector switch in measuring current and voltage.

INTRODUCTION

This module will help you realize the value of being vigilant. In this sense, you are encouraged to become observant in order to learn deeply the different scale ranges set by the two units that you are about to learn.

Moreover, in this module you will be able to learn how to read measurements of current and voltage. Just take the series of activities and as you learn make reflections for you to have a deeper understanding of the lesson. Are you now ready? Let's get started!

REVIEW DRILL

Activity “Choose Me Well” Directions: Read the following statements carefully. Then write the letter of the correct answer on the underlined space before the item number.

_____1. What unit we are going to set the selector switch if we want to know whether a device has still continuity? A. Ohms B. Current C. Voltage D. Farad

_____2. If we want to measure the ampere rating that the device draws during operation, what unit we are we going to set the selector switch of the multi- tester? A. Ohms B. Current C. Voltage D. Farad

_____3. Ferdie wants find out whether a power line has a source, what unit he is going to set the selector switch of the multi-tester? A. Ohms B. Current C. Voltage D. Farad

  • For voltage Example

Activity 2 “Reading is Fun”

Directions: In your own understanding, read the measurements of the following readings for current and voltage based on the set range of the selector switch. The first one is done for you.

For current Example 1

ANALYSIS

Think and Reflect!

Directions: Based from the activities, answer the following questions. Write it on the space provided.

  1. Are the equivalent counts per tick within a specific range of scale for current and voltage differ from each other? why?

    ____________________________________________.

  2. Do reading measurements of current and voltage differ from each other based on the set range of selector switch? If so, how?

Note: Study and analyze the sample that follow after this illustration and then you try to answer by filling in the information under you try! part.

Table 3

Determining equivalent count per tick within specific range of the scale for voltage

Selector switch Scale range to Equivalent Multiplier Set voltage focus count per tick 10 ACV 10 V 0.

50 ACV 50 V 1 None

250 ACV 250 V 5

1000 ACV 10 V 0 100

Note: Only the 1000 volts set range in the selector switch has the multiplier in order to match the set voltage of the selector switch with respect to the scale range to be focus and that is 10 x 100 is equal to 1000. For voltage 10 – 250 the counting is already made available in the scale. You just have to be aware of the equivalent value per tick. Illustration

APPLICATION

Activity “Read and Tell”

Directions: Examine the figures below. Identify the resistance reading of each item. Write your answers on the underlined space provided before the item number.
