Family Background:

  • The Globasa Family consists of 3 members, Father IPG, Mother WCA, and Daughter KCA. Mother WCA had seemingly abandoned the family leaving Father IPG alone to take care of their daughter.
  • Father IPG is a construction worker and earns Php 1,500 Weekly
  • Their family follows a health professional’s prescription as their means of taking care of health while consulting doctors and barangay health workers but also hilot and albularyo depending on the severity of the illness. Daughter KCA is fully vaccinated while father IPG is only partially vaccinated for COVID.
  • They own their house which is made from light material with satisfactory ventilation and poor lighting facilities. They get their water from the water district and drink water from the faucet and commercial distilled water. They share a toilet with their neighbor which is water sealed. They store their garbage in a plastic garbage bag and dispose of it through burning. They have no canal system.
  • Some ornamental and vegetable plants are planted in the surroundings of the house. Air pollution is experienced due to garbage and leaf burning as well as the use of wood fire for cooking.
  • Their food is bought from the local tindahan and is washed and stored in a food cabinet in covered containers.

Air Pollution from Wood Burning Cooking (Health Threat)

  1. Inability to provide a home environment conducive to health maintenance and personal development due to inadequate family resources specifically financial constraints/limited financial resources.

After of nursing interventions are done, the family will understand the risks related to wood burning as a cooking method and will consider alternative methods of cooking.

After nursing interventions, the family will: a. Understand the risks related to wood burning. b. Will be able to state other methods of cooking. c. Will be able to apply proper preventive measures in cooking to protect the members of the family especially the young members.

Promotive Interventions

  1. Inform the family about the risk factors related to burning wood, specifically: a. Discuss the respiratory problems that may arise due to the inhalation of smoke (coughing, wheezing, asthma, and other chronic conditions). b. Discuss the dangers of wood burning indoors and the irritants resulting from presence of smoke in not well- ventilated areas. c. Stress the importance of taking
