Short Family Background:

● The Gadil-Natorre Family have been residing for 10 years in Purok 3, Barangay Tibig, Lipa City Batangas. It is a nuclear family

composed of parents and 4 children aged 44, 42, 38, and 18. According to the interviewee, she and her husband are living together but

they are not yet married. They are both widows with children from their deceased spouses. Only one of their children is currently living

with them and is now studying as a Grade 12 student. The father works as a carpenter while the mother is a housewife but runs a sari-sari

store at their house. As for their working children, one is a carpenter, one is a domestic helper, and one is a carpenter. Two of them are

married and have their own families already while the other two are still single. The father’s daily income is only 500 php which is

insufficient to support their daily necessities. The father has no known illnesses while the mother is hypertensive and is taking a

maintenance medication of Amlodipine to control her blood pressure.

● When it comes to their healthcare practices, the family utilizes herbal medications such as the use of oregano and ginger but they also ask

a health professional for a health prescription whenever they experience health problems. Whenever illnesses occur, they consult with

doctors and nurses specifically from Ospital ng Lipa since it is the nearest hospital to their residence and they also seek help from their

BHWs whilst for non-related health problems, they talk it out within their family. The children in the family are all fully immunized and

the adults have full vaccination against COVID-19. Upon observation, their house is made of mixed and light materials. According to the

mother, they own the house but the land is not theirs. They have good ventilation in their home and satisfactory lighting facilities.

● For their environmental indices, their source of water belongs to Level II and they get their drinking water from the faucet. They store it in

a covered container and inside a refrigerator. They have their own toilet room inside their house and it is flushable. As for their garbage,

they use a pail with a cover as their garbage can and they use burning and burying as their means of disposal. Their type of drainage

system is an open canal and they clean it three times a week along with washing the clothes. Moreover, they also have ornamental and

herbal plants around their house and plants of vegetables like oregano & ginger. They are also free from air pollution in their area.

● As for the family’s sanitary food handling and preparation, they wash their foods and preheat meat as means of preparation. They store it

in a covered container such as tupperwares and recycled ice cream containers inside a refrigerator. The family has a stove with an LPG

tank and they utilize it to cook their foods. According to the mother, they buy their food both in the public market and in the grocery. They

also wash their hands before & after food preparation as well as before & after eating.

Long-Term Goals:

After a week of nursing interventions and health teaching, the family will be able to: a. Stabilize their blood pressure level within the normal parameters b. Maintain adequate nutrition and practice healthy exercise c. Utilize available community resources regularly for maintenance of healthy BP levels

Preventive Interventions

  1. Enhance the family’s awareness regarding the importance and how to practice a healthy lifestyle: a. Instruct the family to incorporate the reduction of sodium and cholesterol in choosing their daily meals. b. Provide them with a list of healthy food choices that serve as catalysts of lowering blood pressure levels c. Encourage the family to boost their physical activity engagement d. Provide them a list of foods and beverages to avoid or take with moderation e. Discuss ways on how to manage stress levels and identify what works the best for them

Curative Interventions

  1. Remind family to take the

maintenance medication properly as prescribed by physician such as Amlodipine. 2. Teach the family on how to take a blood pressure properly and how to read it. 3. Discuss different home remedies that can be done to manage signs and symptoms in case hypertension arises.
