DEFEND THE ENVIRONMENT
Directions: Read and analyze the situation given. Write a 2-pargraph position paper regarding the issue. In writing the position paper, include principles discussed in: Module 9 Organizing Things in A Proper Place , Module 10 The Human Person and the Environment and Module 11 Prudence and Frugality Towards the Environment. Write your position paper on a separate sheet of paper. Your city is experiencing water interruption from time to time, and to ease this crisis, the government plans to enter into a contract with a foreign company for the construction of Php 18-billion project called New Hope Dam. This dam will be located in one of the ancestral domain of Dumagats near your city, also, that land has rich biodiversity and because of this project, much of the ecosystem will potentially end up being endangered. What will be your stand about this ecological crisis? Will you pursue the construction of the dam to ease the water shortage in your city or will you respect the rights of the indigenous people over their ancestral land and consider the ecosystem that will be endangered? How will you reconcile development and taking care of the environment and people living in it?
HOPEless DAMn Water shortage is a very relevant issue nowadays. In fact, based on studies, water crisis in and around the Philippines has affected some 6 million people, with lengthy lineups developing for rationed water and businesses and hospitals straining to cope when faucets went dry. One example of this is what’s happening in the said city on the above context. It was said that the place is experiencing water interruption every minute. Due to this catastrophic event, the government was said to be constructing a dam to fix this problem. And this project is called, New Hope Dam.
The dam will provide water to the whole community which is very beneficial for them. Water is a necessity that we, humans, utilize and consume for drinking, cooking food and washing dishes, clothes, fruits, vegetables, and even taking
