CHAPTER V: THE INFORMATION AGE

THINK ABOUT THESE QUESTIONS:

Directions: Answer the questions and Activities based on the topic discussed and understanding.

  1. Who are the contributors of the technological advances of the Information Age?

The contributors of the technological advances of the information age are: ✓ Tim Berners-Lee - created the World Wide Web ✓ Steve Jobs - jobs who were created the first effective personal computer called the Apple 1. The Apple 1 was a huge advancement in computer sciences and it carved the path for the computers we have now. Apple has created iPhone, iPod, iPad, iMac, and Apple TV. ✓ Bill Gates - Gates is also a huge force in the Information Age. He founded Microsoft, which creates almost everything that has to do with computers. Microsoft develops programs like Microsoft Office, Windows, and many other influential products.

  1. Aside from communication, what other aspects of society is/ are being influenced in the Information Age? Aside from communication the other aspects of society that are being influence in the information age is able to use and operate a PC, a laptop, a tablet or smartphone in other way which helps to society to innovate or transform to a systematic way. Now whether the knowledge they are absorbing is correct or not is another topic. The information age affects the way students9 study, it is able to enforce or change our political views, it provides the news, a business minded person you can find an entire trade school online, we work, trade stocks, sell goods online. The information age brought everything non-physical to us. Its influence on our lives is too vast to mention or describe.

  2. What other technological advancements can possibly be developed in the future?

1. The Internet of Things

The Internet of Things has long been talked about amongst tech insiders as the next big innovation in home technology. In recent years, IoT has begun carve a niche for itself in everyday life with the growing adoption of systems like Google9s Home and Amazon9s Alexa. These devices will continue to integrate more aspects of the home into one harmonious system by utilizing the internet, allowing a user to control anything from the air conditioning to their security via voice command and a small personal assistant. Apple has announced its plans to roll out the Home Pod this year and Samsung is reportedly working on their Bixby technology in order to compete with the success of the Google and Amazon systems. You can expect that one of these devices will be simplifying life in your home and the homes around you by 2020.

2. Automation

While large-scale innovation in automation has traditionally been limited to the production side of society, the technology will have far reaching implications for consumers by 2020. Amazon9s automated grocery store, eliminating the need for cashiers, has been one of the first major tech triumphs of the year. The store has proven itself successful as an efficient alternative for shoppers in its first location. The current cost of this technology, however, puts it out of the reach of pretty much any other storefront. As the technology continues to develop, consumers can expect that pressure sensors and cameras that automate pay and alleviate long lines in stores will be coming to groceries and pharmacies near you in the next couple of years.

3. Cryptocurrency

After Bitcoin9s meteoric p rice jump in 2017, major tech players have begun to take cryptocurrencies seriously. Along with major Initial Coin Offerings that have hit major news outlets like Ethereum, smaller companies are developing Stable coins that provide attempt to provide all the pros of cryptocurrency transactions without the price fluctuations that have plagued the system. As these coins begin to work themselves out and exchanges even out the fluctuations in prices, expect these assets to be mainstream methods of payment by 2020.

4. Block chain

Blockchain, the decentralized ledger that holds together cryptocurrencies, has applications reaching far beyond financial transactions. Companies have applied the technology to everything, from simplifying tracking and access to information in academia to interesting and amusing games that use complex algorithms to create unique experiences.

5. Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence, which once may have seemed like something out of a Sci-Fi novel, is seeing the light and applications of the technology are already being worked on. In particular, with the rise of the Internet of Things, Information Technology and Cybersecurity firms have begun to adopt artificial neural networks in order to monitor and prevent DDoS attacks. In addition to its security applications, companies like Amazon and Google have begun to apply the technology to regular consumers in order to simplify shopping and sea arching experiences on the platforms. With all the current progress of AI technology, it is reasonable to expect that by the year 2020 the innovation will be deeply entrenched in both business and consumer activities.

  1. Which Generation do you belong that a kind of science technology existed? Please explain it.

As with birth generations, researchers have identified several different technology generations. Most of us are most comfortable using whatever form of technology was current during our formative period. I can consider myself under Millennials (Gen Y) I was born between 1981-1994. And as based on

stored digitally. This allows data to be transferred from one computer to another using a network connection or various media devices. It also does not deteriorate over time or lose quality after being used multiple times.

  1. What kind of Society you are in right now? And explain the culture you have (with technology or not)

The kind of society I have today is a society surrounded by the capability of technology. Everything revolves around the use of technology. Not everyone's day is made up without looking at their cellphones or whatever gadget they have. Technology is already ingrained in human life; Tech will enable creative people to create more. It will enable good people to do better. It will enable lazy people to be lazier. It will enable bad people to do worse. It will enable family and social people to be closer and more loving. It will enable lonely and isolated people to become more isolated. It will enable radical advances in all things people do sports, arts, medicine, science, literature, nature exploration, etc.

  1. How long do you use your computer? Or a computer? Does this technology help you find an

important information?

I have been using my computer for almost 8 hours and yes, it is a big help in such a way as medium in getting important information especially to someone like me who is currently working and a student at same time. Computer technology is leading to more accurate sizing and rating methods for process equipment; Compilation and organization of the fouling data, Easy access by both research organizations and industry; Development of a logic system for interpreting the fouling data. Many of the individual tasks within the overall design process can be performed using a computer. As each of these tasks is made more efficient, the efficiency of the overall process increases as well. The computer is suited to aid the designer by incorporating customer inputs, problem definitions, evaluations, and final product designs. Product information can be easily communicated among all development processes: design, manufacturing, marketing, management, and supplier networks.

  1. What do you know about the World Wide Web? World Wide Web, which is also known as a Web, is a collection of websites or web pages stored in web servers and connected to local computers through the internet. These websites contain text pages, digital images, audios, videos, etc. Users can access the content of these sites from any part of the world over the internet using their devices such as computers, laptops, cell phones, etc. The WWW, along with internet, enables the retrieval and display of text and media to your device. The World Wide Web was invented by a British scientist, Tim Berners-Lee in

  2. He was working at CERN at that time. Originally, it was developed by him to fulfill the need of automated information sharing between scientists across the world, so that they could easily share the data and results of their experiments and studies with each other. For further improvement, Berners-Lee asked other developers via the internet to contribute to its development. Many developers wrote browsers for the X- Window System. The first web server, outside Europe, was introduced at Standard University in the United States in 1991. In the same year, there were only ten known web servers across the world.

  3. Why do you think that it is right that human evolve into using technologies?

Yes, it is right that the human evolves in using technology because we often think about technology as the latest innovation: the smartphone, the 3D printer, the VR headset. It9s only by taking a longer view, however, that we can understand its entwining with our spe cies9 existence. For technology is more than computers, cars or gadgets. It is the entirety of human-made artefacts that extend and amplify our grasp of the world. This is not because such inventions weren9t hugely important, but because it obscures the fact that all new technologies are at root a combination of older technologies and that this in turn traces an evolutionary process resembling life itself. For much of 2020, the world has been trapped in the short-term: glued to 24- hour news cycles, pandemic announcements, or social media culture wars. With the virus and politics drawing almost all attention, it has been difficult to imagine next year let alone further ahead. In times of global crisis, focusing on the present is justified. Yet as we move into 2021, there is good reason to spend some time also reflecting on our place within the longer-term past and future. For one, there remain creeping problems that we cannot ignore, such as climate change, antibiotic resistance or biodiversity loss. But also, because contemplating deeper time can help replenish our mental energies during adversity, and offer a meditative source of catharsis amid the frenzy of the now.

DO THIS!!

Do the Activities below.

  1. Narrative Essay. Write a narrative essay that focuses on the evolution of transmission of information in various time periods and areas of the world. Refer to Table 1 presented in the discussion. The members may act in the video presentation and they can use props or materials to improve the presentation. Limit the video presentation in three to five minutes.

Humans have long dreamed of possessing the capability to communicate with each other anytime. Technology, particularly as a communication tool, is an intimate part of everyday life for Millennials. They have grown up in a world with unprecedented and instant access to data, in their pocket and at their fingertips. It is second nature for a Millennial to influence the use of technology and large data sets to inform a majority of decisions. Furthermore, they share their decisions broadly among social networks and regularly report their experiences online. This digital insight can help transition offices into technology-enhanced practices, using big data analytics to improve performance and care quality, and share those metrics widely. Millennials have been shaped by the forces of globalization, making society increasingly connected and interdependent in terms of economic integration, communication exchange, cultural diffusions, and travel. As a result, Millennials operate in environments that not only vertically integrate multiple generations, but also horizontally integrate individuals across national and cultural boundaries.
