Detailed Lesson Plan A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of subtraction involving decimals. B. Performance Standards The learner is able to apply the the subtraction of decimals in real-life situations. C. MELCs The learner solves routine or non routine problems involving subtraction of decimal numbers including money using appropriate problem solving strategies and tools. Teacher: Angel Ianette C. Gacasan Date: December 14, 2023 Grade: Grade 5 I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, given the materials and examples, the students should be able to do the following with at least 75% level of accuracy: a. Define decimals and rules involving subtraction of decimals b. Identify the rules of subtraction of decimals; and c. Perform subtraction of decimals. II. Subject Matter: Subtraction of Decimals a. Reference: Grade 5 Mathematics book; Internet b. Materials: Visual aids, manila paper, marker, projector and laptop c. Value Integration: Participation, Teamwork, Cooperation and Discipline

III. Procedure Teacher's Activities Students’ Activities A. Preliminary Activities

  1. Prayer Let us all stand for a prayer (The teacher calls a student to lead a prayer)
  2. Greetings Good morning class! I hope you are all well and good. To check if you are all good, please make a sound. (Teacher performs short drills like Hephep- Hooray to get the students’ attention and focus)
  3. Checking of Attendance Are there any absentees for today’s class? Alright, class secretary list the names of those who are absent today and pass it to me when our discussion ends.
  4. Giving of Classroom Policies Before we begin our lesson, please be reminded of these following rules:
  5. Find a sit where you are comfortable and free from distractions.
  6. Avoid talking with your seatmates.
  7. Put your cellphones in a silent mode, you can only use it when you are told.
  8. If you want to answer or have queries just raise your right hand. Let us bow our heads and feel the presence of our Almighty God. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit... AMEN. Good morning ma’am! (Students respond to the Hephep-Hooray drill) Yes/No, ma’am! Yes, ma’am! (The students listen and note the rules.)

Is the answer correct? Very good! Let us now proceed with group 2 Is it correct? Excellent! Lastly, let us hear from the group 3. Is the answer correct? Yes it is. Very good! Now what have you noticed from the things posted on the chalkboard? What about the operation used in solving the problems? That’s right! So today, we are going to learn about the The Subtraction of Decimals. Yes, ma’am. (Group 1 representative presents their problem along with their answer.) Yes, ma’am. (Group 1 representative presents their problem along with their answer.) Yes, ma’am. They are all decimals. We used subtraction in solving the problems. C. Discussion Subtracting decimals is similar to the process of subtracting whole numbers. To subtract decimal numbers:

  1. Arrange the digits in columns and align the decimal points.
  2. Insert zeroes in empty decimal place values (if needed) so that all of the numbers have the same number of decimal places.
  3. Subtract as with whole numbers.
  4. Place the decimal point in the difference so that it lines up vertically with the numbers being subtracted Example 1. Subtract 169 from 218.

Solution: 218.

  1. Example 2. Find the difference between 73 and 3. Solution:
  1. Example 3. Solve for the difference between 7 and 1. Solution:
  1. Did you get it, class? Is there any part of the topic you find confusing or difficult? Do you have queries or clarifications? Okay, if there is none, let us have an activity. (Students are listening.) Yes/None, ma’am. Yes/None, ma’am. D. Application Since you have understood the topic, let's have another activity. I have envelopes. Each envelope contains word problems that each group must answer. With your group from the previous activity solve for the difference of the decimals written in your chosen envelope. After that pick one representative from your group to present your answers along with the problems. Is the instruction very clear? Yes/No, ma’am.

of Decimals is very important in our lives? Why? Okay (The teacher calls a student to answer.) Exactly! It is important in our daily living for it is used calculating for the difference between quantities we find not equal to a whole number. Do you have more clarification about our topic? Any violent reaction? Since there is none, let us have a quiz. Yes ma’am. (Students raise their hands.) We use decimals every day while dealing with money, weight, length etc. Decimal numbers are used in situations where more precision is required than the whole numbers can provide. For example, when we calculate our weight on the weighing machine, we do not always find the weight equal to a whole number on the scale. Also, subtraction of decimals is important in calculating the difference of .numbers that we find not equal to a whole number, for example, in calculating for the change in groceries. Yes/None ma’am Yes/None ma’am F. Evaluation Direction: Solve for the following problems.

    1. 07
      1. Answer key

3. 91.

- 85.

4. 670.

- 158.

5. 5.

- 2.

Are you all finished? Finished or not, exchange your papers to your seatmates. Let's check your work. I need five volunteers to solve the problems on the board. (The teacher calls five volunteers to answer the problems.) Now, let us check their answers’s start from number 1. Is the answer correct? Very good! Is the answer for number two correct? Yes, it is correct. What about number three? Is it correct? Correct! It is indeed 5. What about number four? Is the answer correct? The last number, number five, do you think the answer is correct? Very good! Now, return the papers to their owners and write the scores on the upper right side of the paper and write

3. 5.

4. 511.

5. 2.

Yes/No sir. (Students exchange their papers to their seatmates.) (Students raise their hands.) (Students start answering the problems on the board) Yes, ma’am. Yes, ma’am. Yes, ma’am. Yes, ma’am. Yes ma’am.
