SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIETY

ESSAY

Like other countries, our country which is Philippines has also its own history about Science and Technology which led a new discoveries and new technologies which help us up until now. My essay aims to share the significant changes and development of science and technology over the years.

We have seen significant development on both science and technology in the Philippines, as we all know we started from having limited sources. Back then, our country didn’t have a lot of scientists and there wasn’t enough research funding to create something that could help us. As time flew by the government our country started prioritizing and investing in infrastructure to support scientific research, and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). They also started giving efforts to improve our science they made a building research facility that focuses on various field such as (Genome Center, the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, and the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration). Because of that Many medicines have been developed to treat new and emerging diseases. Technology has helped our country, especially when it comes to calamities as we can be prepared due to weather forecasting. The Philippines has made important progress in different areas, such as information and communication technology, agriculture, and biotechnology, it also become known as one of the up-and-coming technology centers in Southeast Asia, with more and more start-up companies and technology-based industries being developed.

Many scientists and researchers choose to work abroad because they know we do not have enough support and resources. For this reason, it makes it difficult for them to do their work effectively. Furthermore, the rural infrastructure is poor, making it more difficult to use technology in some areas. An example of a situation that might affect us is the phase-out of jeepney. Although the program has some advantages, many people don't like it because it is hurting the lives of Jeepney drivers and making it more difficult for people to travel. Jeepney drivers lose a lot of money because they cannot use their old jeep, and they don't have enough money to buy a new one. As a result, they have fewer passengers and earn less money. The government wanted them to use an e-jeep that was too expensive for them. As for commuters, if this continues it will affect their daily income, because the fare for their transportation will be a little bit high due to the changes of transportation.

In summary, the Philippines' science and technology have made progress, but there still much work to be done. The country has progressed in areas such as information technology, agriculture and biotechnology, but still has problems such as lack of funds for research and development and lack of infrastructure. The government and others need to work together to solve these problems and maintain the growing technology of the country.
